Chapter Thirteen:
They wheeled Cale out on a stretched and loaded him into an ambulance almost immediately. Clyde’s body was covered with a black sheet and taken away. Andrew was revived and left to deal with his dead brother.
Cassidy and Henry waited in the parking lot for Mrs. Reynolds’ to pick them up and take them to the hospital.
Somebody had called the school letting them know why four students were missing. The teachers had decided not to punish them and instead they organized a proper assembly to remember Alexandria.
Cassidy’s mom pulled up and climbed out of the car with shaky legs. “Oh my baby,” She said running over and scooping Cassidy into her arms. “Don’t ever do that to me again,” She scolded.
“Mom it wasn’t my fault,” Cassidy protested. “I was almost arrested.”
“I know, baby,” Mrs. Reynolds’ said. “I just can’t believe something like this happened. It’s so unexpected.”
Cassidy smiled weakly. Henry cleared his throat behind her and put a hand on her shoulder as she stepped out of her mother’s embrace. “Oh, yeah,” She said blushing slightly as she turned to Henry. “Mom, this is Henry Smart.”
Her mom held out a hand which Henry took and shook. “Nice to meet you, Mrs. Reynolds,” He said politely putting a smile on his face.
“Nice to meet you too dear,” She said with a kind look.
“Can we go now, mom?” Cassidy asked impatiently. “I wanna see Cale and Lola.”
Her mom nodded and they climbed into the car.
The drive to the hospital was silent. When they pulled up, Cassidy grabbed Henry’s hand and they opened the doors and ran into the hospital leaving Mrs. Reynolds to park the car.
“Excuse me,” Cassidy said to the nurse at the desk. “I’m looking for Cale Reynolds.”
The nurse flipped through some papers. “He’s in surgery to have a bullet removed from his shoulder.” She pointed them towards a waiting room.
Cassidy dragged Henry down the hall. In the waiting room they found Lola. She was sitting in a chair with her legs crossed and flipping through a magazine.
“Lola,” Cassidy cried running to her and wrapping her arms around her.
Lola hugged her back. “Cassidy ohmigod I was so scared for you,” She said. “Cale’s in surgery.”
“Is he going to make it” Henry asked as he stepped behind Cassidy and wrapped his arms around her waist. He put his chin lightly on her shoulder and Cassidy’s face started burning.
“They think so,” Lola said. “The doctor said he was nearly gone when he was brought in. A few more minutes even and he’d have been D.O.A.”
Cassidy sniffled. “I just can’t believe he took a bullet for me.”
Henry tightened his arms and hugged Cassidy from behind. “He’ll be fine.”
Cassidy smiled and leaned into the embrace.
“Family for Cale Reynolds?” A doctor stepped into the waiting room and looked at the three teenagers.
“I’m his younger sister,” Cassidy said.
“I can talk to you then,” The doctor said. “If you’ll come with me,” He started walking down the hall and Cassidy followed with no hesitations.
“Is he ok? Will he make it?”
The doctor turned to face Cassidy. “Your brother’s a fighter,” He said. “We’ve removed the bullet and cleaned him up. He’ll need to stay to recover so we can watch him, but otherwise he’s fine. He’s being transported to a private room in a few minutes. If you’d like to visit, I’ll have somebody show you the way.”
“Thank you so much!” Cassidy threw her arms around the doctor who stiffened and then patted her back. “I’ll let my friends know and then we’ll go wait for him.”
The doctor walked back with Cassidy and then entered the room.
“He’s ok!” Cassidy said excitedly and she ran up to her friends.
Lola beamed gratefully and Henry smiled. Cassidy ran into Henry’s arms and he swung her around. When her feet touched the ground again, she leaned close to Henry and her lips brushed his.
Her hands wrapped around his neck and he tightened his around her waist. Their lips met again and when they finally broke apart, Cassidy smiled up at him and rested her head on his chest, sighing in contentment.
“Cale!” Lola ran over to Cale as he emerged from the room in a wheelchair, his face pale and sweaty. She hugged him gingerly and he pulled her face to his.
Cassidy felt a huge grin stretching across her face. After their awful day, everything was finally turning around and she was receiving her happy ending.

Well this is a sad, sad moment. This is the very last chapter in this story. There is an epilogue and I'll post it after I get two comments and a vote on this chapter. Pretty please? For the sake of the ending of the story.
