Chapter Nine:
Cale watched the officer drive away like a crazy man with his sister in the back of the car. “What just happened?” The football player said running a hand through his hair.
“That crazy officer just waltzed into our classroom and arrested my sister.”
“Damn,” The football player said his eyes widening. “Why would he do that?”
“Apparently Cass forged Alexandria’s suicide note and actually murdered her.” Cale said dryly. The words sounded so wrong in his mouth. Cass, forged, suicide and murder were words he never wanted to hear in the same sentence ever again.
“That was Cassidy then,” The football player said.
Cale nodded. “I’m her older brother, Cale,” He said sticking his hand out.
The football player took it and they shook hands. “I’m Henry,” He said.
“Oh,” Cale said a knowing smirk growing on his lips. “You’re the one my sister had lunch with.”
Henry nodded. “Yeah,” He said.
Cale’s smirk grew wider. “Well my sister is infatuated with you and she gushed all about how you were her saviour, her knight-in-shining-armour and her Prince Charming. She went on and on about how your eyes twinkle and sparkle and-”
“Shut up,” Henry said flicking the back of Cale’s head. “I know Cassidy only a little bit, but I know she wouldn’t say that,” He said. “In front of her brother,” He added when Cale raised an eyebrow.
“True,” Cale said. Then, “Damn. You weren’t scared away by that. That means you might date my sister.” He shuddered at the thought. Cassidy was fragile and delicate and she was still getting over what Jonas had done to her.
“I hope so,” Henry murmured turning his head to watch where the car had disappeared.
“Listen, man,” Cale said seriously all of a sudden. “Cassidy’s still getting over a cheating ex, so give her time. And if you hurt her I’ll hurt you.”
Henry turned to Cale. “I won’t hurt her.” He said and Cale nodded.
Lola stared in shock as the officer dragged Cassidy out the door. Cale went running after them and Lola was on her feet ready to follow when Chase reached out and latched a hand onto her wrist.
“Don’t,” He said sharply. “You don’t want to get in trouble.”
Lola looked at me with raised brows. “I have to help Cassidy,” She said.
“My dad’s a police officer,” Chase said softly trying to get Lola to sit. “He’ll make that officer understand why he can’t arrest Cassidy.”
Lola nodded slowly Chase’s words floating through her head as she tried to understand them. Finally they made sense and she smiled. “Thank you,” She said to Chase.
Lola sat down and watched Ms. Edwards try to explain what had happened to the principal who had just arrived at their class.
Ms. Edwards was waving her hands around and speaking extremely fast. The principal shifted in the doorway and Lola saw Jenn in the hallway. She motioned to Lola who stood up and went to Ms. Edwards.
“May I use the washroom?” Lola mumbled looking at the ground.
Ms. Edwards nodded before continuing her story.
