~Danny~

I put on the last layer of lip gloss and fluffed my hair again, making sure it was perfect. Curling my hair and putting it on one side with bobby pins seemed the easiest and most elegant way for tonight. I hoped I wasn’t over dressed. Hearing a series of little noises on my window, I went to investigate.

I saw Sam leaning against his car, throwing rocks against my window. At once I forgot my delicate façade in order to yell at him tough the window. My mom was going to kill me if she found out about her ever so precious windows.  I shut the window and grabbed my purse and cell. After yelling a good-bye to my mom I ran out the door to Sam.

Walking towards him, I looked down and hid a grin. His eyes raked up my body as he took in my (kinda) short crème dress and beautiful black pumps. I felt gorgeous and at the moment and was shivering from his look. He looked amazing in a nice shirt with a blue tie that brought out his already obvious electric blue eyes. He met my eyes, took a deep breath and said, “Hey.”

“Hey,” I said a little too cheerily. I was nervous. Sam usually made me feel comfortable but we were going on an official date. My first date out here was with a guy that I’d already kissed. Why did I have to do that? He’s going to think I like to kiss every stranger I meet. I’m such a screw-up.

“So, you ready to go?” he said, interrupting my thoughts. He took my hand and led me to the car. He opened the door for me and I sat down, feeling the cool leather beneath my finger tips. I looked up, startled, when the car door slammed.

He chuckled, “Did I scare you?”

I laughed, “Yeah, a bit. This is all a bit nerve racking, don’t you think?”

“Yeah, but I just have the feeling, Danny, that if I get to know you everything will be amazing.” He stared into my eyes and it was like he could see through everything. Every wall I had ever built, every lie I had ever told. I couldn’t help it, I looked away. I could hear his disappointed sigh. Even though nothing bad had happened, I felt like crying.

“Hey, I didn’t mean to make you sad. This night was supposed to be fun.” He smiled shyly. I smiled too and tried to brighten up.

“So, what’s been happening?” I asked.

“You mean at home? Nothing. Nobody’s really been home lately but me. I guess my parents have been busy with Brad today.” He was more confident and comfortable now. I smiled to myself and bit my lip. “What about you, how have you been since the game?”

“Oh, you know. My mom was gone at the studio and came home and ate vegetarian stuff. I lay around and ate cheerios. I have a bit of a cereal obsession. It’s just great stuff. I’ve been feeling kind of weird though. I hope I’m not catching anything. After taking some medicine, I got ready for our date.” I shrugged, “That’s about it.”

“You know, if I didn’t know any better, I would say our lives are about as boring as it can get. But you know, things seem a bit more interesting with you around.” He gave me a smile that would make any girl do whatever that boy wanted her to do. I was going to have to be very careful.

His smile was just so great though. It turned a little crooked near the corner of his mouth. And his teeth were so straight and white. Oh god, now it sounds like I’m an orthodontist or something. But it’s like they were PERFECT. His black hair covered his eyes just so, and when he looked at me, his blue eyes peered out through thick, dark lashes.

“Would that be okay? Danny?”

“Ummm… what?”

“Would it be okay if we just walked around for awhile? Our reservation is in about 15 or 20 minutes.”
