Sorry this is so short. (: I haven't had much time to write this weekend. :)
Chapter 10
~Sam~
Danny’s entire body crumpled in and she fell out of her chair. I raced over to her, knocking my chair over in the process. I knelt down and pulled her head into my lap. A waitress came from the corner, hearing the commotion, and stopped where she was, her mouth opening and closing with shock. “Sh-She just passed out,” I stuttered. “What do I do?”
The girl ran out of the room and I cursed. “Wake up Danny, wake up!” I couldn’t help but smell her nice flowery shampoo. Her eyes started to flutter and I stroked her hair, hoping it would soothe her. Her eyes opened fully and she looked around vulnerably. “How’d I get down here?”
“You just passed out. Are you okay? Can I get you anything?” I said, my voice trembling in relief.
“Yeah, I think I’m okay. My head hurts terribly and my stomach’s churning. You might want to get me a bucket. Sorry for ruining our date. I swear I didn’t feel that bad before I came.” She gave me a weak sort of smile.
“Don’t be ridiculous Danny. Our date wasn’t ruined. You’ve probably got the flu. I’ve heard it’s going around. You must have a pretty bad case of it though, to pass out like that.”
“Yeah, I guess.” She smiled mischievously, “Are you stroking my hair?” she said, her voice teasing.
I grinned sheepishly, “Yeah, I guess I am.”
I made a gesture to move my hand back but her hand caught mine. “No, keep doing it. It feels nice.” She made a show to purr like a cat and I laughed quietly.
All of the sudden, Danny stopped purring and looked up abruptly. I followed her gaze. Jasmine, our waitress, and the guy who had been on the phone and advised me on my tie, walked in.
“What’s going on here?” Tie Guy said.
“Nothing’s going on here, Sir.” Danny said feebly. “I just passed out. I guess I’ve got the-” And then she threw up.
“Oh dear.” Jasmine said as her face paled. She turned on her heels and walked out.
The Tie Guy smiled nicely and said, “I’ll go get her a bucket. Be right back.”
Danny put her face in her hands as soon as he walked out. “Oh God, this is my entire fault. Why didn’t I just stay home when I felt sick? I’m so stupid.”
I smoothed the hair from her face and reached up to get a napkin off the table. “You didn’t know it was going to be like this. You thought you were just getting a cold. Don’t blame this on yourself.”
She wiped her mouth with the napkin and smiled feebly. “Thanks Sam. I don’t know what I’d have done without you. I absolutely hate being sick.”
“I know the feeling.” In fact, just being in the same room was making me kind of noxious. Call me a wimp but I hate puke too.
“You’re so brave for staying here though. I would’ve run a mile away by now.” She looked up at me, admiration on her face.
