A sharp sensation pricked at my neck as I woke up and as my eyes adjusted I saw Blake remove a needle from my neck. I was immediately awake again, alert and nervous. Blake glanced at me, putting the needle onto the counter by my side.

“Wakey, wakey, rise and shine,” he uttered with a cruel chilling smile.

“What did you just give me?” I replied sharply, masking my shock with a snarl.

“Relax,” Blake replied in a calm voice, he brushed his greasy hair out of his eyes and turned away from me. “It was just a bit of adrenaline, to wake you back up.”

I stiffened, immediately becoming focused and concentrating on my surroundings. Just as before, I was strapped to the table, barely able to turn my head to face Blake. I turned to look at everyone else in the room one by one. Dallas gave me a weak smile from where he was tied up and as I faced Drew he also nodded slightly, subtly. Zack also stared at me, more shocked than casual.

“I explained to Zack everything,” Blake informed me. “So I think he knows.”

“Is it true Skylar?” Zack asked nervously. “About Starlings hospital? Is there a lab down there?”

Miserably, I managed to nod.

Zack sunk back in her chair, sighing as he took this all in. When Blake turned to me and blankly stared back at him, wanting to fight and attack but the most I could do as squirm from side to side.

“You mustn’t act so scared,” Blake told me with a calm concentrated voice. “I would have thought you’d be used to death by now. It’s happened a fair few times.”

“Blake…” Dallas hissed from the corner of the room. “Don’t do this.”

“Please… Leave her alone,” Zack joined in with a loud, heart-breaking sob.

“Enough!” Blake snapped. “I have no choice.”

He reached over me again towards the counter. I tried to tilt my head upwards so I could see what was actually on the counter but the ropes kept me from doing so. It’s only when he showed me what was in his hand that I saw the large shape blade of a silver knife. Panic surged through me.

“It might help for you to close your eyes Skylar,” Blake suggested with a half-hearted shrug. He didn’t care how much he hurt me. Now he was just enjoying being in control.

“Get that away from me,” I hissed, but Blake balanced the tip of the knife on my stomach, just above my belly button. Everyone in the room tensed, including me, and I couldn’t breathe because my heart had literally stopped from shock and blind fear. He pushed the blade down just hard enough so that it pierced the top layer of my skin. I winced, but managed not to yelp or whimper. I could bare this type of cruelty, but not when it got any worse. Hoping that it would guilt Blake into stopping, I kept eye contact with him the whole time, ignoring my brother as he wept for me and Dallas cursing Blake under his breath.

“I can’t believe this,” Zack moaned. “Please stop.”

Blake pushed the knife a centimetre lower into my stomach, slicing through the flesh and letting the blood form a large red circular stain on my stomach.

“Get off me,” I hissed, clenching my fists and trying to push through the ropes. I couldn’t despite my strength and adrenaline, the rope was simply too strong.

Pain pulled at my insides as the knife very slowly entered deeper into my stomach, and I squeezed my eyes shut as Blake raised his hands into the air, ready to slam them down on the knife so that it would plunge into my stomach. This was it. I held my breath, waiting.
