“MONSTER!!!” I screamed, so incredibly angry that I wanted to rip him apart, bone by bone. I wanted to feed him acid. I wanted to drown him in cement mix. I wanted to watch him suffer. He’d killed Zack. He’d properly killed Zack. He would never come back now. Drew was Zack.
Forever.
I ran at him, blind with fury. My strength took hold of me, and the fist that hit him in the face was not mine, but it was that of a skilful boxer. It was a fist designed to break Blake’s nose, and that’s exactly what it did. Blake’s nose snapped with a low pitched cracking sound and blood began to trickle out of it, down his face and into his mouth as well as down his neck. He doubled over but I wasn’t going to leave it at that. I wanted to kill him. I was going to kill him. But I wasn’t going to just shoot him or stab him. I was going to make the death as slow and as unbearable as I could. Blake would pay.
I kicked him as hard as I could in the stomach, then charged into him, driving my fist into his chest, then his chin, then his nose. He cowered on the floor, holding up both his hands like he was surrendering.
I forced myself to stop. I was going to wait. Wait and let him suffer.
I had to drag myself to the side of the bridge, to look down and see what I was dreading to see all along. A small weak defenceless figure sprawled out on the ground with a broken neck and blood spilling out of his head and other various places in his body. I clenched my fists in anger as Dallas, Drew and Ember came running up, colliding with the bar that stopped us too from falling.
“Oh my…” Dallas breathed, horror stuck on his white face.
“Holy sh!t,” Ember bellowed, rubbing her forehead with her hand. Drew was too shocked. He leant against the side of the bridge with his shoulders hunched over, staring at Drew’s broken body.
Suddenly, Blake was back up, running at us. I jumped out of the way, hoping that he would leap straight off the bridge and fall to the same awful doom that Drew had experienced. Instead, he charged at Dallas, knocking him to the ground.
“Get away from him,” Ember shouted, trying to intervene. When she went in to stop Blake, he spun and hit her in the guts, sending her flying backwards. Drew still wasn’t processing this. He stared at the body in shock. His life was changing in front of him. He was having the same thoughts that flashed through my head when I saw Zack die the first time. Only this time it must have been worse for him because this was permanent.
Dallas was losing the fight. This was mostly because he no longer had his crutches. Blake had snapped them in half and they were lying on the ground. Blake hit Dallas across the side of the head. Dallas swung a punch. Blake ducked, barely missing it, bringing his knee sharply up and hitting Dallas in the stomach. Blake was going to kill Dallas if he got the chance, and Ember was lying on the floor, defeated. Drew was still freaking out. He wasn’t going to fight. I didn’t want him to fight so I knew I’d be the only one that could save Dallas and I knew just how to do that.
I couldn’t waste a second.
Shaking like a vibrating phone, I carefully pulled myself up onto the railing of the bridge, wobbling awful as I stood up straight. There was a bar that jetted out the side of the bridge and hung right over the fifty foot drop and carefully, I began to tip toe along that. No one noticed me.
I tried not to look down but it was too tempting, and that only added to the pressure. I knew if I misplaced a step or if I went off balance that would be it for me. I’d fall. I’d plummet 50 feet and probably break every bone in my body. It was a certain death situation.
I was trembling as I reached the end of the bar. I held my hands out straight to each of my sides, and felt like screaming. It didn’t help that the wind was dreadful, throwing branches, leaves and litter everywhere and in every direction.
