After my little talk with Greg, We both walked out and turned off the telly. It was a distraction from the real matter at hand. Christmas Eve. Of course, Niall complained when we hit the Power button on the remote, cursing under his breath and smacking Greg on the back.

“Spanner…” Niall kept muttering. (A/N It means “idiot” for those who don’t understand.) I just ignored him and sat in between my boys, an arm over each ones back. Nothing could’ve been better than that. For a solid hour and a half, Greg and Niall kept exchanging glances and nods at one another, as if they were planning something. I tried my best to not notice in case something really was planned, but I eventually I gave in.

“Okay what the hell are you two up to. You have been acting off all night. Tell me!” They smirked at one another and Niall just tapped away on his phone. Little did I know that 5 minutes later the biggest surprise of my life was about to happen. I was startled by a knock at the door. I snuck peeks at Niall and Greg but they looked clueless. I gave Greg the “tell me or you die” look and he just shrugged and furrowed his brows at the door. I hesitated before slowly walking over to the door. I didn’t have a peephole so if it was a murderer, I’d have to face him. Slowly I turned the doorknob and almost fainted from who I saw at the door.

“Merry Christmas, Bea,” Liam smiled. I screamed and jumped into his arms, kissing every part of his stubbled face. He looked a lot older than the last I saw of him. He just…chuckled and hugged me. I heard and awkward clearing of the throat behind Liam and moved my head to get a look of the person behind him. A huge lump formed in my throat and I was still crying from seeing Liam. I couldn’t breathe. There standing in the hallway, was a girl. She looked a little older than me, and she was definitely prettier. She held out her hand and smiled.

“I’m Sophia, Liam’s fiancé.” Her hand was still held idle in the air, so she just brought it back to her side. I felt light headed and sick to my stomach. Sophia, the pretty girl, was going to marry MY Liam. How was this possible? We never broke up. Did he know about Harry and just assume I didn’t want to be with him? I did want to be with him, more than anything. I loved him.

I couldn’t hear anything but a loud ringing in my ear, one of those rings that no matter how hard you try, it won’t go away. Then, as if all the light had been sucked out of he room, I passed out.

I stayed out for a while. When I woke, I was in my bed again. I didn’t notice Niall lying down beside me till I rolled over and was face to face with him. I just smiled to myself and scooted away. It was nice that he stayed with me to make sure I was okay. Once I remembered why I had passed out, the smile faded and I struggled to fight back tears. Liam was engaged, to Sophia. Last time I checked, we were still together. I called him almost every night and we wrote letters, because “snail mail is always the most romantic” or so he said. Multiple emotions were flooding through my brain, confusion, frustration, anger, sadness etc. Mostly I was confused.

“What are you thinking about?” Niall asked, groggily, causing me to jump. I tried my best to discreetly wipe away a tear that fell down my cheek.

“I just don’t understand. What happened?” I asked him. Niall stretched and sat up. He opened his arms and I took them. I needed my brother right now. He rubbed my back.

“I honestly don’t know. I knew they were friends but I didn’t know it was more than that. I didn’t know you two weren’t together.”

“That’s the thing. H-He never ended anything.” More tears were falling. I couldn’t handle my anger. I could hear his familiar laugh in the living room. It was dark out and the clock said 8:30. I was sick of him being here already and it had only been 2 hours.

“Go talk to him.” Niall suggested, but I was already off my bed.

“Already ahead of you.” I fumed, running into my closet to change into something more comfortable. Nothing matched because I was too angry to even care. Niall’s eyes followed me as I ran into my bathroom. After wiping off any smeared makeup I had leftover, I stomped out of my room and slammed the door behind me. Sophia and Liam were sitting on the couch, my couch, holding hands. Greg was sitting on a stool, eating a plate of Christmas biscuits I had made hours earlier. They all stopped what they were doing and stared at me. My bedroom door opened and closed behind me, Niall was now in the room. I couldn’t breathe.

“Liam, can I ask you a question?” I said coldly. He nodded slowly and stood, gesturing to Gabby’s bedroom.

“No I’ll ask you right here. What the hell is that?” I snapped, pointing to Sophia. She looked insulted, which was my aim. His eyes grew wide and he look down, putting his hand to his forehead.

“I-I don’t know what to say, Bea-“

“Damn right. What exactly happened between you and me, please enlighten me because I would love to fucking know.” My voice was rising.  Sophia looked confused now, eyes going from me to Liam and back to me. I stared at the alight lamp beside me, blinking back tears.

            “Fuck…” Liam muttered.

“I’m sorry, Liam, what was that? Sounds like you know what I’m talking about.” I was furious.

“I’m sorry to intrude but I’m confused.” Sophia barely said from her spot on my couch. My eyes darted to her, flaming.

“From what I’ve seen so far: Liam started dating you while we were still together, At least I thought we were, and failed to inform me that he had proposed to you. So now I’m left here, heartbroken and confused as hell, while you two are off being lovey dovey.” I yelled. Her jaw dropped, and she sat back down on my couch. I didn’t like her sitting there but Niall was occupying the only other chair and I wasn’t going to be rude to her. She seemed nice and by her current emotions, she had no idea about Liam either. Liam raked his hand through his overly styled hair and took a swig of his beverage, which was bourbon. Gabby’s bourbon, which she only poured a glass of on special occasions. Today was not special.

“Shit, Bea. I’m sorry!” He slammed the glass down on the counter, “I didn’t know what to do! I thought we were broken up! You and I weren’t going to last, you know why? Because you never did love me!” He walked over to me and screamed in my face. I stood my ground, staring him right in the face. I wasn’t going to break down like I always did.

“Bullshit” I said flat out. He just laughed.

“You had a thing with Harry from the very start of the tour! I knew it! And you went home because of him. You didn’t want to break my heart-“

“YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU’RE RIGHT. I DID LIKE HARRY, ONLY BECAUSE HE WAS MORE EXCITING THAN YOU WILL EVER BE!” I screamed. I felt a searing pain in my cheek, and fell over. Liam had slapped me.
