"You know..." His mother continued, "I'm just asking because well, I don't know I just have this feeling..."
"No," Allison shook her head, "I'm not." She assured, thinking about the last time she'd even had sex was...oh shit.
"Alright, His mom conceded, resting her head back into her pillow, "I guess I was wrong this time."
"Yeah." Allison breathed with uncertainty, "It's just...food poisoning or my period or something."
"Of course." She nodded, just as Xander came back in with a bottle of water.
"Here, A." He said, handing it to her.
"Thanks." She smiled, a little uneasily, taking small sips as Xander and his mother continued some small talk.
"Hey guys," The head nurse came in, with a small knock on the door, "Sorry to kick you guys out, but visiting hours are about to be over." She frowned.
"Okay, we'll head out then." Xander said, giving his mom a final hug.
"Night." Allison smiled, giving her a soft kiss on the cheek.
"You know he's here for you, no matter what." His mother whispered to her. Allison just smiled in response as Xander waited patiently at the door.
"You coming?" Xander asked.
"Yeah." Allison nodded, as the two waved one last time, closing the door behind them.
"You okay?" He asked, hitting the down arrow for the elevator, "What was that all about?"
Allison just took a deep breath, "I don't know, she was just saying that you'll always be there for me..."
"What the hell?" Xander chuckled a bit, "She's so random, you know she's just getting back to being herself."
"Yeah," Allison nodded again, as the elevator doors opened for them, "I don't know, she was just...while you were gone she asked me if I was pregnant..."
"Wait, what?" he asked, with confusion clouding his face, "Why the hell would she ask that?" Xander wondered.
"I think because I said I felt sick, I'm not..I don't know." She sighed.
"Wait, so you...might be?" He whispered to his best friend as they made their way out to the parking lot.
"Well, I don't know." She shrugged, "I didn't even think about it until she brought it up, now I feel like I'm just being paranoid."
"Do you want me to stop on the way back for a test or something?" Xander asked, concern for Allison coming over him.
"I..." She said as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Oh hey, no." Xander asked pulling her in for a hug, "It's gonna be okay, I'm sure everything is fine, how about we go get a test just to be sure, okay?"
Allison just nodded in response. It was crazy how this feeling suddenly overwhelmed her, she never even thought of it before.
"Do you know...if there's something," Xander began, taking one of his hands off the wheel to grab her hand, "Who..."
"Jimmy." She mumbled, "God, I'm such an idiot..."
"Hey," Xander said, "Stop that, we're gonna figure this thing out okay. We don't know anything yet, only thing we know Momma was for sure about is that I'm gonna be here for you, okay?" He asked as he parked the car in the drug store parking lot.
"Okay." She breathed, "Okay." She repeated, looking at him.
"You want me to come in with you or no?"
