Chapter 8

"Hey Mom!" Jimmy smiled, as he let him mother inside, giving her a hug.

"What's going on my baby boy?" She said, making Jimmy roll his eyes slightly. He wasn't a little child anymore.

"Nothing." He shrugged, closing the door behind her, as she made her way inside.

"Where's my almost daughter-in-law?" She asked, seeing no sign of Allison.

"She's not here yet," Jimmy began, "One of her friend's moms got admitted to the hospital last night, I don't really know the story but she'll be back soon." He nodded, seeing he just got a text from her a few minutes ago that said she was on her way back.

"Oh, that's awful." She frowned, "She's a good friend."

"Yeah." Jimmy sighed.

"So anyways," His mother changed the subject, sitting down on the couch, "Have you guys planned anything for the wedding yet?" She asked excitedly.

"Not yet, mom." Jimmy said, "It's pretty far away."

"A year is not that far away, Jimmy."

"It's a little over a year," Jimmy corrected, "We've got time."

Just then, a knock at the door came.

"Doesn't she have a key?" She asked, wondering why Allison had to knock to get into her own house.

"She could've forgotten it, I don't know." He shrugged, going to the door. Jimmy opened the door and was pretty surprised, he was expecting Allison.

"Hey..." Jimmy said, a little bit awkwardly.

"Hey." Taj answered, "Is Alli here?" he asked. This situation was so weird. Jimmy hadn't talked to Taj in a while, they've sort of grown apart.

"No, she-" Jimmy began when Allison walked up to the door.

"Hey," She said, she looked exhausted, "Taj, hold on I forgot." She said

"Forgot what?" Jimmy asked

"He asked to borrow my tire pump," Allison said, "I'll get it for you in a minute, let me go say hi real quick." She continued, leaving Jimmy and Taj alone.

"Hey!" Allison greeted, trying to be as enthusiastic as she could be in this situation. She'd been at the hospital all night, and after this whole thing with Jimmy she really didn't want to fake it around his mom all day, but she would have to.

"Aw, Hey!" His mother said back, standing up to pull Allison in for a hug, "What's going on? Jimmy was telling me one of your friends mothers was in the hospital?"

"Yeah," Allison breathed, collecting herself a bit, "She was in a car accident, and right now she's on life support, we don't know what's gonna happen." She frowned.

"Aw you poor baby," She said, pulling Allison in for another hug.

"It's just a tough situation," Allison nodded, "My friend Xander, I've known him since I was a kid. His mom was so kind to me and treated me like family, I just hope she can pull through."

"So..." Taj said, breaking the silence, "How've you been, how was Cali?" He asked, trying to make the best out of the situation.

"Fine, I guess." Jimmy shrugged, "Cali...was good, I feel ready." He nodded, "And yo-" Jimmy tried to ask before being cut off.

"Look," Taj said, taking a deep breath, "Did you know about this?" He asked, and for minute Jimmy was confused.
