I don't know what it was.
Maybe it was the way his honey hair that messily framed his face,
or how I felt every time I heard him sing.
The gig his band was playing was packed,
and everyone was singing along as his eyes closed as he strummed his guitar.
I loved the song he was singing, it reminded her of my favorite movie and my first love,
if I ever had one.
As his eyes opened I swore I caught a glimpse of his hazel eyes
as he sang lyrics and the space grew louder.
My stomach felt heavy and fluttery and my chest felt like it was on fire.
"I'm falling in I'm falling out, don't know where to begin cause I don't know how,"
His voice was like warmth,
and velvet,
And safety.
I smiled and leaned against the back wall as I clutched the necklace that rested on my chest.
"Cause when I'm with you I'm grinning, I won't let you go, now you know.
I've been crazy for you all this time, I've kept it close with a heart on fire, with a heart on fire...."And at that moment I wanted to be something more than the girl who stood in the back of the crowd that ordered a club soda and didn't dance.
But every time I saw his floppy hair and pretty eyes,
for a moment,
a fleeting blurry moment,
none of that mattered.
