He felt like the blood that coursed through my veins,
And the muscles that kept my heart beating. His words were soft and sweet like his rosy lips.
It felt like butterflies and the feeling you get before you open a present,
It felt like going on one of those roller coasters the moment right before the big drop.
What Falling in love felt like.
His body was warm and felt safe as he laced his fingers with mine and held my waist as the soft music filled the candle lit air.
I don't know how to dance,
I told him many times beforeBut he insisted telling me to follow his steps.
And I did, soon becoming comfortable and resting my head on his chest.
He wore a button down and through the material I could hear every thump of his chest and feel all every smooth rhythmic move he made.
It felt like reliving my far teen years, young, In love, and naive.
But it also felt like every good moment too.
"I love you," I whispered into warm air.
"Hmm?" He hummed as he held me tighter and our steps became slower.
"Nothing," I said as I clutched the material of his shirt squeezing my eyes shut.
"Are you okay?"
"I think so."
His touch was like fire, sending my icy skin ablaze as I slowly began to melt.
He pulled back holding my shoulders like he held the handles of his first bicycle (this line is inspired by Milk and Honey)
His eyes held mine and something burst inside of me,
Something that made me feel like all my emotions were going to upheave from my mouth,
Or blow me up so much that I mightExplode.
What falling in love felt like.
My eyes watered as crystal tears slowly escaped my glimmering eyes.
I thought back to the night at the dinner when he told me
He loved me, and the same day our love became doomed.I thought back to our kisses and hugs and everything in between.
I thought back to the morning he had left me alone, sad, and heartbroken.
I thought back to Dakota (mostly how shitty he was).
I thought back to the evening outside of the restaurant when we saw each other for the first time in seven years.
I thought back to the times he told me he loved me even though I still guarded my heart.
I thought about the very moment I was in, and how I couldn't turn back now
Because a heart can only take so much.
And that's what falling in love feels like.
"I love you....please treat my heart kindly."
What falling in love is.
