My mind is a mess.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My boss found me shortly after I had collapsed.
He helped me with the attack i was having,
Asking repeatedly, "What happened?"
Not once did I speak,
Instead I showed him the note as I tried to control my breathing.
I heard him gasp as he read it.
I closed my hand over the note,
Bringing it to my chest.
Close to my aching heart.
With a hazy mind,
I feel my boss help me up and lead me back to the cafe.
I vaguely hear him on the phone,
Speaking calmly with a slight note of worry in his tone.
As we enter the cafe,
My co-worker leaves the customer is attending to once he sees me.
They both lead me to the back, where the employee lounge is.
My boss leaves and my co-worker holds me,
Rubbing my back.
I don't feel comforted.
I lean into him.
I feel myself trembling.
Heart shaken.
Mind racing.
My throat hurts,
My eyes burn.
I taste blood.
I swallow the metallic tasting liquid,
Letting my lip go from my teeth,
Not knowing I was even biting back my tears.
The warmth of my friend disappears suddenly and soon I am engulfed in another warm embrace.
I instantly relax and cling to the person once I recognize the familiar scent.
I bury my face into your chest,
I hear your racing heart and heavy panting.
You came running.
My heart trembles with some unknown feeling and knowing this single fact breaks the last of my control.
I let out a broken sob,
Letting the tears flow down like a downfall of emotions.
Your hold tightens as I cling to him desperately.
I cry at the pain,
Confusion,
Anger,
Fear.
You took me home,
Carrying me on your back.
I hardly recall my boss's soft kiss on my forehead,
and my co-workers hand over my own as you carried me past them on your back.
