Sometimes, I look at artworks and be amazed as to how other artists could make a portrait so beautiful that I'd rather look at it than the original photo. So, I promised myself to keep practicing. I'd like to share some tips, if you are into drawings too.
1. Always draw something you like. True, you'll do best if you like what you're doing. So start making stuff you want, fantasy, fairies, wolves, etc. Me, I like portraits and nature. I would imagine the face of the person I want to draw and make a sketch, just like this...
Ok, I know it's not easy to draw a face.. You get to make it proportion, the eyes, the nose. There are tons of tips in youtube, trust me, just go search on making faces..😄
2. Highlights - now this is very important, it will make your portrait realistic. It's easier to use paint and brush. There are dozens of good programs you can use to make really awesome artworks... I don't have much time so I settle with my ipad and this simple app. It doesn't allow me to blend colors so I had to be creative. I make overlapping strokes and just erase the excess afterwards.
They say, the eyes is the window of the soul. I agree. To make good looking portraits, you have to make good looking eyes. His eyes' not that great though..look at him, lol.
I must admit, I really had hard time choosing the color of his hair. If you know Faramir and Eowyn, they both have blonde hair. Too bad, the background will blend with his hair (and im too lazy to edit) so I used this color instead. See below.
The hair was a mess..lol.. I tried my best to make him look like more Faramir (his father) than Eowyn. But it seems I needed more practice..haha..But yeah..I'm happy with how his eyes turned out. If you have any questions on how to make portraits, shading, eyes...feel free to ask. I love sharing ideas and helping others.
Thanks for checking...you're awesome! -Haz
