A Hiccelsa Modern AU OneshotColours
Hiccup has always seen black and white all his life. Everyone has. You were born with it wether you liked it or not, and when you were young you were told by your parents that whenever you were with your soulmate, you'd see colour, but only when they were close by. Sometimes, if you were touching, all of the colours around you would saturate. It doesn't make any sense, nobody knows why... But then again, when did anything make sense in the world? He guessed that was why his father and mother were inseparable all his life, but who could blame them? They were married after all!
His mother, Valka, would always tell him of all of the wonderful things he was yet to see when he would finally find the one he is meant to be with. She would tell him each of the colours' names and would point to where they would belong every time they would go to the park together when he was only 5 years old.
"Look Hiccup!" She would say, and would point up to the tree tops, white rays spilling through the grey leaves that would seem lighter near the white rays, then darker and darker. "The trees' leaves are green! Even the grass under you. If you look to the playground, it is red, and if you look high up in the sky, it is blue!" And Hiccup would shake his head.
"No, they're all just grey." Then, she would smile warmly and poke his belly, making a giggle come out of him.
"Ah, see that's what you see my little dragon. But really, the whole world is filled with all of those colours." Hiccup pouted his lip.
"But I don't see them! I want to see them!" He would say mournfully. Valka clucked her tongue and she hugged him close.
"Hmm... One day you will my little dragon. One day. Once you find your soulmate, you'll see all of the colours of the world, and more." Then, she'd kiss his cheek and would take his hand to bring him to the swings, all the while Hiccup thinking hard about what the colours would look like, as well as wondering if someone was out there for him.
But, that was 18 years ago, and still, he hasn't seen a speck of any of those. Not once. "For when you see colour is when you'll see your soulmate." He was starting to doubt that he'll ever see both.
Whatever right? Who needs colours or someone to love? He'd ask himself. I'm just fine without them. Or... so he thought.
It was a gloomy day in Paris, where Hiccup was currently staying at to visit his long time friends, Jack, Merida, and Rapunzel. Rapunzel was having a show that day regarding her newest work of paintings, the theme of her work called "Colours", and was anxious to show them; She had found her soulmate it seems, just after Jack and Merida had been going out since she had been raving about the colours that she had discovered. She noted that she now sees what Jack and Merida meant all of their lives since they had been able to see colour when they were around the other.
It actually took some convincing for the two, since they didn't like each other that much at first; They were always competitive, and always trying to best the other in anything that they did, but it was then in their last year of high school that they realized that really, they were trying so hard because they were trying to impress the other person.
Hiccup was happy for the two, really he was, but... He longed to have the same things. He wants to see the sky, he wants to see the flowers, he wants to see the birds, he wants to see everything in their natural being! But he can't!
Looking down at his watch, he checked the time and his eyes widened.
He was late. 30 minuets late.
