Chapter Eight Part One:

As we began to drive away I let out a sigh and closed my eyes. He wouldn't dare lay a hand on me. Would he?

I can't help but wonder where Levi is taking us because I thought we were supposed to be meeting the guy here at the beach.

The silence in the car is starting to become very tense. Slowly, I sit up and reach for the radio. Hopefully the sound of the music will help make the atmosphere less tense.

. . .

The feeling of a hand softly caressing my face caused me to flutter my eyes open. Once my vision came into focus I noticed Levi standing next to me and my door open.

"Hey angel. Sorry for waking you up but we have walk the rest of the way from here so we need to leave now if we want to meet Ryker on time." Levi says softly while still caressing my face.

"Okay" I whispered while sitting up and stretching.

I don't think I will ever understand how he can be a total jerk one moment and then sweet the next.

"I know you're mad at me but stay close to me when we get to him. As much as I trust him I also know that those three always have ulterior motives." Levi growled out.

"I can take care of myself you know." I point out.

"Yes I'm sure you can," he doesn't sound too convincing.

"So what's the big deal?" I retort.

"You can maybe take care of yourself against a normal person but Ryker is no normal person."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I question with an eye roll.

"Do you think you could stand up to someone like me?" he questions.

"I don't know, probably," his questions are starting to annoy me.

"What if they know more than you do? What if you react around them the way you do around me?" he practically whispers, moving closer to me, so our bodies are almost touching.

I tilt my head back slightly, holding his gaze and fighting my urge to rock on my toes to connect our lips.

"And how is it that I react around you?" I ask, my voice unintentionally quiet and breathy.

"Exactly like this," he breathes, reaching up to move the stray hair that has escaped from my clip. I hold my breath, unwilling to even blink while he refastens it, as I refuse to even let my mind acknowledge how much my body is crying out for him. "Now let's get moving."

He takes two steps away from me, and I literally have to shake my head slightly to remove the fog that seems to have settled on my mind.

Of course I couldn't stand up to someone like him. I already tried that and it didn't work but that doesn't mean that I can't protect my self.

And him using himself as an example isn't fair. He makes me feel things when I'm around him and it makes it hard for me to be able to focus on the problem at hand so that is cheating.

You can't use your looks for your own benefit Mr. Alpha! I shout in my head.

I'm tired of everyone treating me like I'm some kind of child. I just want to meet this stupid guy and get this over with so my life can go back to normal. Colton is probably worried sick about me and poor Eric has to take care of him all on his own.

As we continue to walk it becomes increasingly darker as the moon chases the sun out of the sky.

"Levi can we please take a break just for a minute I don't think my legs can take much more," I beg.
