The Wolf Prince | Chapter Thirteen
The next morning I wake up in the living room, my body draped over Joyce. I sit up quietly and watch him sleep peacefully on the couch before getting up. He was adorable when he sleeps, I thought to myself, and then I couldn't help but wonder what his older brother looked like sleeping peacefully. Heat creeps to my face at the thought and I shake my head clear.
Today I decided that I didn't want to do training, leaving Harley to it. Instead I had another plan, and I needed help. However, this was a kind of plan that I couldn't tell Harley or Joyce about and most certainly could never tell Grayson about. I needed someone that didn't have any ties to either pack.
I needed help from a rogue, and I knew just the emerald eyed rogue for the job.
After throwing on my fighting leathers, strapping on my sword and sliding my dagger down my boot (the normal morning routine), I bound down the stairs, out of the glass house and into the thicket of the deep forest.
I was a woman on a mission, and I wanted answers. I wanted them now. I wasn't going to act like a helpless little girl waiting for her mate to tell her the damn truth. I wasn't going to rely on him. And I most certainly wasn't going to rely on a damned rogue; however I did need his help. I found myself choking out a nasty laugh, the last time I had seen the rogue I was telling him to stay away from my pack and I, and now I'm in need of his help. Oh the world was a filthy place.
I didn't know exactly where to find the rogue, so I decided going to the clearing in the unmarked lands by my territory would be my best shot, considering every other time I've seen him it had been there.
The forest was cool and dark this morning, fog making it difficult to see far. My fighting leathers were pretty thin, and I didn't think to bring a jacket. I thought about turning around to get something warmer but decided against it, I was close to my territory so it seemed pointless to turn around now.
Before I reached the clearing the man with emerald eyes popped from behind a tree, sitting on the closest log. He was wearing a dark burgundy t-shirt that was tight on his body; you could see the outline of his muscle through the thin shirt. My breathing quickened. His dark hair was tossed messily to one side, and he had dark stubble growing along his jaw line, it made him look dangerously sexy. But then again, he was a rogue and he was incredibly sexy.
"Are you stalking me?" the man asks, his deep laugh vibrating through my cold bones.
"U-Uh," I stutter, not really sure where to start explaining. "Sort of, but not really."
A smile breaks his face, flashing a set of perfectly straight teeth. "Do you care to tell my why your sort of but not really stalking me?" He asks, a brow rose as he pats a spot on the stump beside him. Too close beside him, I think, keeping my feet planted on my spot a couple feet away from him.
"I need your help," I mumble, ashamed that I even though that asking a complete stranger, not even just that but a rogue stranger for help. When I look back up to him he was smirking a little, his eyes glistening with mischief.
"Strange..." he mumbles to himself. "I didn't think I'd see the day where an Alphas daughter would seek the assistance of a rogue." He chuckles, shaking his head. "Hell you're practically an Alpha yourself." His eyes trail up my body to meet my eyes. "What trouble has the Alphas little daughter gotten herself into?" His smirk grows at my glaring eyes.
"Just so you know, I didn't get myself into any sort of trouble, the trouble came to me." I cross my arms defensively, staring into his beautiful deadly emerald orbs.
"And now she's come to me," he winks, and stands, taking a couple steps towards me. I retreat back as many steps as he takes forward.
"I'm going to need to know that I have your help before I can begin to even think about trusting you, rogue." I spit, my defences shooting up.
He smirks taking another bold step closer. "That's funny, because I think the thought to get me to help you wouldn't have even popped into that pretty little head of yours if you didn't already have a little trust in me," his eyes meet mine as he takes another step towards me. I retreat to have my back bump against the trunk of a tree. "So tell me," he mumbles, closing in on me with every quick step. "Why do you trust me little girl," he whispers, his breath fanning against the base of my neck. My body shudders in response, every nerve ending in my body humming.
"I-" I begin but get cut off my his wicked laugh.
"You don't know," he backs away from me, his face a mask of sadness and disgust. "You don't know, do you?" he turns from me, as if the sight of me was revolting.
"Know what?" I demand my voice breaking. He turns to me, his mouth set in a hard line, like the one I had seen on Grayson's face when I walked out of his bedroom the other night. When I rejected him.
"It doesn't matter." He looks down to his shoes. "What do you need help with?" he merely whispers.
"I need you to take me to Ember; I need to talk to the Alphas son that runs the pack there. I don't know how to get there." I quickly add, heat creeping to my cheeks. Ember was another small village; it was ruled by one of the five Alphas that made up The Crown.
"I can't help you," his body grows still at my request, his face flushing pale.
"And why the hell not?" I growl, taking a step away from the tree closer to him.
"Because-" he pauses. "I just can't, okay?" he turns his back to me and runs his hands through his dark hair. I wonder what it must feel – "I'm sorry," he adds quietly cutting me off.
"Listen, I really need your help, there's no one I can trust to take me. And I can't tell my friends what's going on. Trust me, I would if I could." I snap the last part, my voice going from a desperate plea to a angry growl in a matter of seconds.
The rogue whirls around, taking to long strides so his face is centimeters away from mine. "Why don't you go ask your mate for help," he growls deeply, his shoulders tense and his eyes not looking at me, I look down to see what he was looking at. Our hands were so close, and I swear I saw one of his fingers twitch. He was looking at our hands.
"I don't trust him," I pause. "at all," I whisper. It was obvious the rogue realized and remembered that Grayson and I were mates when he attacked the both of us, or Grayson anyway.
The rogue watches me for a second, his eyes lost in thought. "Fine, I'll take you," he mumbles out. My shoulders relax and my heart quickens with excitement. "Under one circumstance," he bargains.
"Okay," I reply anxiously.
"Don't call me rogue again, please." He says distastefully. "My name is Kyran,"
"Ky," I mumble under my breath, a faint smile on my lips. I liked it; it was unique, almost exotic in a way.
"Yeah, that works too." He smirks, sliding his hands into his jean pockets.
"I'm Shira," I smile, extending a hand for him to shake.
Apparently Ky didn't do formalities because his response was simply "I know," and then he turned away from me to start walking, without shaking my extended hand. Lord help me this was going to be one hell of a journey.
