The Wolf Prince | Chapter Twenty Eight

I knew that Grayson would eventually come looking for me, it was just a matter of when.

He obviously cared about me in his own fucked up way but I wasn't totally sure that I could return those fucked up feelings. Pardon my French. I figured today I would do a little exploration of the palace, since this is where the Prince lived for his entire life, there was bound to be a clue on his whereabouts somewhere.

Deep down I wanted to know who the Prince was, I know I was never really involved with his search before but that's because I was preoccupied with a certain possessive Alpha Grayson Kade. I wanted to help my father, partly because he was my father and he needed all the help he could get, and the other part because once we actually found the Prince I could finally become Alpha myself. A goal I had simply lost track of.

I slept on one of the many elegant sofas in the large living room. The living room didn't have a television; instead there is a fireplace that takes up nearly the entire wall, the brick from the fireplace acting as an accent wall to the opposite plain white painted ones. I looked for hours, scowering the immaculately clean rooms and endless corridors. I came up empty handed with every empty room I left; there was no trace a family even lived here, let alone a royal one. There were no photo albums or family portraits on the walls, no note books with names or anything.

I didn't understand why nobody knew Prince Reid's sons name.

It made no sense.

Was he in some sort of hiding? Did this have anything to do with his disappearance? It hardly even seemed like he existed in the first place.

I found my father where he normally was in the study with his nose buried in a book, doing research. As I enter he looks up and shoots me a small smile, motioning toward the chair across from him. I take his offering and sit.

"Any news?" I ask, picking up his tea cup and taking a little sip for myself.

"Grayson's pack is tracking down a suspicious rogue pack, he thinks it's the same pack that uh-" he cuts himself off clearing his throat, and I nod my head in understanding so he didn't have to finished. Harley.

"Grayson also said he will be here soon, to pick you up." My father says with a raised brow, peering at me from over his book. I fall back against my chair and let out a growl of frustration.

"I can't." I say firmly.

"You can," my father replies, his voice thick with authority.

"You don't get it!" I nearly should, hopping up from the chair, throwing my hands up in frustration. "The damn asshole is my mate." I feel like throwing up from the last word. A word that didn't mean anything to me, not anymore.

My father was looking at me like I was a lunatic that escaped the mental hospital. "W-what," he stutters, nearly tripping over his chair as he walks around his desk to stand in front of me, his mouth gaping and arms loose at his sides. He doesn't know what to think, I can tell by the look in his eyes, the way he's not sure weather to be happy for me or not.

I knew I didn't believe in the destiny of mates anymore, it couldn't be right because I knew Grayson and I weren't destined. I didn't love him like a mate should. So it didn't matter.

It didn't matter.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away. I didn't want you to worry about me with everything that was going on, and besides, the Prince being returned is much more important." I mumble, looking down at my feet. My face felt hot with shame, I didn't know what else to say, I was just as speechless as my father.

Later that night after a long awkward silence between my father and I, I decided it would be best if I found a room to sleep in. I went up a set of winding stairs that were lined with a brass railing, and down the fire lit hallways. I found the highest and most secluded room for the rest, somewhere peaceful. There was a king size bed across the room positioned perfectly between to of the biggest windows I've seen, a white silk pillow and duvet blanketed the bed, flowing softly to the dark marble floors. A fireplace was lit dimly across from the bed, and near the licking flames was a door, a small door that looked like a closet.

I walked up to the door, curiosity engulfing me, and after turning the brass handle and opening the creaky door my suspicions were confirmed. This was a closet, and it was filled to the brim with male clothing, some expensive tuxes and other articles not so expensive looking.

This was a mans bedroom.

A young man.

I looked around, everything seemed so empty and polished. I frowned, my brows furrowing as I reached out and felt the soft fabric of a cotton shirt. Quietly I left the closet, leaving the door open with a racing mind.

What if.

What if this is the missing Prince's room.

What if my answers were in here?

What if.

I decided that I would sleep in what I thought may be the Prince's room for now. I threw my bad on the bed and fell back beside it, wondering what life in royalty was really like. How awesome it would be for a day to have that much power.

As I began to drift off into a slumber I was awoken by low growling voices, voices that seemed to be shouting, arguing at each other and with each word seemed to be getting louder, angrier.

I jumped out of bed, throwing open the door and bounding down many winding steps, by the time I reached the foyer I was out of breath and my hair was a mess.

My eyes caught Grayson's.

But then I looked down.

Grayson held him down on his knees, his hair was dirty and head arched down. There was blood all over both men and my heart began to throb. There was a lump in my throat that I couldn't swallow and as Grayson smirked at me with such wicked intent I felt like I was going to be sick.

"When I was searching for the rogue pack that killed your friend." Grayson's deep voice booms, amusement plastered on his beautiful face, "I found this one sniffing his snout in territories a filthy rogue like him doesn't belong in."

I nearly choked, my eyes stung from unshed tears.

"He admitted to killing her."

Kyran didn't say a word as he finally lifted his gaze from the ground to me.

He didn't deny anything.
