SO. There's a note at the end of this chapter... *laughs nervously*
The Wolf Prince | Chapter Eighteen
My palms were sweaty.
I could hardly see the man standing before me; my eyes weld too many tears. I strained them to get a better look, frantically wiping at my eyes. It was useless, I kept crying. I couldn't help it; I didn't know what was going on.
The room was dark, nothing but a single light above my head shinning down on me, the rest of the room was a dark shadow, a blur. I was on my weak knees, the floor cold and hard beneath them. I felt sick and malnourished, I was small. I bowed my head and looked at my thin legs, my thin arms. I was bruised all over and extremely pail, I hadn't seen the outdoors in who knows how long, and I shamefully didn't mind. I didn't care. I stopped caring after a couple years of being locked away in this basement, this dungeon.
I wasn't scared, fear left me long ago. I was run down, worn out. I was too tired to care any longer, so I didn't. But I incredibly was confused, specifically because the man standing before me had never lingered this long, never returned after he beat me.
He had something in his hands and my vision was too blurry for me to make out what it was. But I didn't care. Whatever he was going to do to me couldn't be any worse than the things my body and I had already endured.
As he took a careful step towards me, I looked at him. I couldn't quite see him properly but I looked him dead in the eyes. I could tell he was upset, even angry. I could tell this because tonight's beating was the worst he's ever given me. He beat me a couple hours ago, until I passed out. That's when he stops. Sadly, I didn't pass out as soon as I normally did so he took advantage of that.
Of course I was physically too weak to fight back. I put up more of a fight when I was first kidnapped. I kicked back, it bit. But in the end it was all useless, and now I just kneel here and take it. I took it because I had no other option, I had to. I took it because I knew I wasn't the only one down here.
I knew there were many others, receiving beatings just like me. I could hear him beat them. They were all down here with me, but I couldn't see them. I didn't know exactly where they were down here but I knew that there were walls between us all, walls we were chained to.
I coughed. Blood splattered the floor by my knees and I wheezed, my eyes prickling with fresh tears. I could taste the bitter blood in my mouth and I spit it onto the man's shoes, disgusted. I couldn't help the little smirk of satisfaction that tugged on my lips, but I immediately regretted it.
My head snapped to the side and my cheek burned. I was silent. He had slapped me. Before I had the chance to look back at the demon before me he hit me with something, and I fell, my head smacking against the floor.
I cried out in pain, and my voice began to drown out before I had the chance to scream again. My body went limp and I felt relaxed as my mind shut down. I had passed out.
I shot out of my bed, my heart beating rapidly and my back sweaty. I looked around frantically in a crouch, preparing to fight off anybody who dared to touch me again. But I found myself in my bedroom. In Grayson's glass house. I straightened, lifting up my hair and peeling it off my sweaty neck.
I had had a nightmare.
A nightmare that was more a memory than anything else. I put a hand to my chest, willing my breathing to calm as I sat on the edge of my bed.
"Are you-" a husky voice said from behind me and I shot up for the second time, letting out a small yelp. I turned, my mouth slightly parted in utter shock. There on my bed lay a worried looking Ky. He was laying on his side, his head propped up by his hand and his lips were set in a cute frown. I gaped at him, flabbergasted. "Okay?" He finished.
