"You okay, Emma?" Liam asked, looking at the teenagers through the mirror.
Emma had Killian's hand squeezed tightly in hers. Her head rested on Killian's shoulder. His head laid on top of hers. She was still shaking. She nodded, not sure what would come out if she tried to talk. Killian kissed her the top of her head.
"I-It's o-ov-over now." He whispered. She nodded and snuggled her head in his neck.
The car ride was silent the rest of the way back to the Jones' house. As soon as they got inside, Killian took Emma up to the guest bedroom and put her duffle bag down on the bed. Emma laid down on the bed, and Killian towered over her with a small smile on his face. He kneeled down to her head and kissed the tip of her nose.
"Sleep." He whispered softly. He got up and started walking towards the door.
"Wait!" She shouted, causing him to turn around. "C-can you stay with me? Just until I fall asleep?"
"Sure." He let go of the doorknob and walked back over to the bed. He crawled in next to her and wrapped his arms around her. "I-I-I'm h-here."
"I know. Just, please don't leave."
"Never."
Emma turned over and looked him in the eyes. "You know, we did have a moment earlier today."
"Ah, th-the k-kiss. I-I wasn't sure i-if y-you wanted to t-talk about it. Y-you would b-be sh-shu-shunned at s-school f-for d-date-dating me."
"I don't care about what the other people think. Popularity won't matter after high school ends."
Killian turned over and sat up. "Y-You ju-just don't u-un-under-understand what you-you're a-asking for."
"Why is it such a problem? I like you. Don't you like me too? I thought that the kiss would prove that you do. People don't just go around kissing other people for no reason."
"I-It was i-in th-the mo-moment."
Emma felt her cheeks burning. 'I could have sworn-' She shook that thought out of her head. She didn't want to think about it anymore. "Oh. You can go if you want." She turned over and felt the tears roll down and land on the pillow.
Killian turned around to look at her, but all he saw was the back of her head. "A-as you w-wish." He got up and left the room.
As soon as the door latches shut, Emma sat up and wiped her tears away. It wasn't worth it. He was just a crush. And no matter what, he wasn't going to like her. Why would he? She was just a stupid little orphan anyway. One who couldn't even defend herself against them. She ended up falling into a light sleep that wasn't very relaxing. If anything, she was even more tired than when she first drifted off to sleep.
Killian left the room and went back to his room and fell onto his bed. How? That was the fist question that came to mind. How could he break her heart like that? How could he reject her like he just did? Why did he do it? Why couldn't he just accept her feelings and tell her his? 'I am an idiot.' He told himself. He repeated that over and over again in his head. So what if she wanted to go out with the boy with the stutter. Maybe his classmates would stop teasing him. Maybe he would stop feeling like he would be alone forever. The new bad boy look that he had changed his appearance, but not how he felt. He still felt lost. He felt like the world would cave in on him any second. Killian wasn't aware of how long he had been lost in his thoughts, because sooner than he realized, there was a knock on the door.
"C-come in." He called out. He was expecting his brother, but it was Emma who walked in. He could see her tense form, as if she was afraid she would get yelled at after what he told her.
"Liam said that dinner was done. He wanted me to come and get you." She turned to make her leave, but he quickly grabbed her hand. She turned to back him. "What?"
"I'm s-s-sorry. I-i c-ca-can't be the b-boyf-boyfriend th-that you de-deserve."
"Let me be the judge of that." She stepped closer to him and cupped his cheek. She ran her thumb down the scar on his cheek. "I know you aren't rejecting me because you don't have some kind of feelings for me. Why else would you change your entire style? Let's just see where this goes? I like you, Killian. I've never had a boyfriend because I have never stayed in one place long enough to. But, I have a feeling that I'll be here for awhile. It will be a learning experience."
"I-I d-d-don't know." He scratched behind his ear.
"You're nervous." She stated. He looked into her green eyes, and she could see how his blue ones twinkled as he looked at her. "You stutter more, and you scratch that spot behind your ear."
Killian opened his mouth as if he was going to say something, but Liam yelled from downstairs. "Your food is going to get cold!"
Killian chuckled. "L-let's g-go eat. Th-then w-we c-can talk m-more."
He let her walk out first, then they both went down and sat at the dinning table. Emma sat across from Killian as he sat next to Liam. They ate their chicken noodle soup with some conversation. She didn't really talk unless either of them asked her a question. She didn't want to interrupt their sibling banter. It was so cute how they would tease each other. Once they finished eating, Emma gathered up all the dishes and offered to clean them. Liam argues that because she was a guest, that she shouldn't have to clean up, so Killian dragged her up to his room.
"Did you want to keep talking or no?" She asked, not sure if he would want to pick up where they left off or not.
He shook his head. He took a few steps towards her until he was standing right in front of her, looking down into her eyes. "W-w-will y-you go o-out with m-m-me?"
Emma chuckled. She cupped his cheeks and brought his lips to hers. Killian responded to the kiss as soon as their lips touched. His hand went up to her hair and he threaded his fingers through her golden curls. When they pulled apart for air, she smiled at him. "What do you think?"
