Above is the kind of werewolf in this story- sort of like in Teen Wolf, but without the glowing red or blue eyes.

I paused about thirty yards from the alpha's house, took a deep breath, and squared my shoulders. I had to do this. If I let my birthday pass without saying anything, the alpha would be raving mad. The heels of my boots clicked on the bricks as I went up the front walk. The guard standing at the door lifted his eyebrows at me. I tilted my head down and didn't look at his eyes as I said, "I respectfully request an audience with the alpha, sir."

"Name?" the guard asked gruffly.

"Jessica McIntire."

"Wait here." He opened the door, poked his head in, and spoke to someone inside. He just repeated my request before closing the door and scanning the yard.

I waited patiently as the guard ignored me. About five minutes later, the door opened wide. Another man said, "Jessica McIntire, you may enter."

I kept my head slightly bowed as I walked in the door. The man closed it behind me, motioned for me to follow him, and walked ahead. I did not look around the house as we went. I only stared at the back of the man's lower legs as I kept at least five feet behind him. He stopped at a door, knocked on it, and I heard, "Enter!" called from within.

The alpha's voice filled me with revulsion, but I hid it well. I was in complete control of myself. The guard opened the door but stepped aside. He waved me in, so I moved forward. I picked my head up just a bit to see who was in the room. The alpha was seated behind his large mahogany desk. Oddly, he was smiling at me. His son, Colton, was standing to the alpha's right. Colton had his arms crossed against his muscular chest, his legs spread slightly. His expression showed mild annoyance with my disruption.

To the alpha's left stood his lead enforcer, Arnold. The enforcer looked more relaxed, perhaps slightly curious. I took all this in within a split second before I focused on Alpha Fisher. My head remained tilted down submissively, but I kept moving my eyes up to look at Alpha Fisher's face. Not doing so would be a sign of disrespect when he was talking to me.

The smiling alpha said, "Jessica, I'm so glad you've come to see me. I've been meaning to talk to you for the last few days, but things have been so busy." This didn't shock me, and he brought up the reason why as he continued. "Tomorrow is your eighteenth birthday, isn't it?"

I nodded and softly said, "Yes, Alpha."

The alpha's smile grew even bigger. "Such an exciting day for a young were. What time were you born, Jessica?"

"Six fifteen PM, Alpha."

Alpha Fisher looked to his lead enforcer. "Arnold, make arrangements for the lineup at six twenty and be sure to recall any unmated males on assignment outside our borders."

Arnold nodded decisively. "Yes, Alpha. Right away."

Alpha Fisher returned his eyes to me, still smiling. "You are a good girl to come remind me, Jessica. Was there anything else you needed to speak to me about?"

I had rehearsed this part for over a year in front of my bathroom mirror. Keeping my head down and my voice submissive, I calmly stated, "Yes, Alpha."
