Most people in the wizarding world know me as Nixie Potter, sister of Harry Potter, and one of the heroes who conquered the greatest Dark Lord of all time, Voldemort. I've always been a talented witch, a girl who got most spells right on the first try, a girl who could easily defend herself without using a wand. Pile that on top of being famous, and my life should be amazing.
But it's not, and it never was.
I died last year; it wasn't a comfortable feeling. It would have never happened if I'd never confided in a memory stored into the diary of Tom Riddle. That was pretty much the worst thing I have ever done, and I don't think anyone is going to get over it soon.
But that's only the down side. There is an upside – it's nearing the end of summer, and with school comes my long-time crush, Seamus Finnigan. He is an oblivious, sweet boy in my year, with sandy blond hair and sky blue eyes. I remembered his adorable face, and the adorable blush that stained his cheeks whenever he did something awkward. I had a big crush on him since my first year – but that was when I didn't even consider going out with him, now I couldn't help wishing that he'd ask me out.
Harry would die, of course, if that happened. Seamus was his roommate, and I had a strong inkling that Harry had already threatened the poor boy to stay away. I didn't think that would be very hard – Seamus just so happened to be as tactless as Ronald Weasley, Harry's best friend.
You see, after I died, I realized just how important all the little human things were. Now that I'm alive again, I cherish everything that has to do with life. I get strange looks, but no one has ever come back from the dead - except for a girl named Danielle Johnson, who I haven't seen since she'd come back to life with me. She wrote to me; she told me she was going back to Hogwarts to finish her education. You'd think that being dead for fifty years, would give her time for studying. But she used the time pranking with the school poltergeist, Peeves.
Bonnie Heart wouldn't let me leave her sight, other then when I had to use the bathroom. She was scared I would die again. I wish she would leave me alone, she made me uncomfortable. There was one person who didn't know that I had died, and that was Hermione Granger, my closest friend. She had been Petrified, and when she woke up she saw me alive and well, so she assumed watching me die had just been a terrible dream. Everyone agreed it was better not to tell her.
Harry, Bonnie, and I were in Harry's small bedroom, finishing the last of our homework. Or, at least, Harry and Bonnie were. I had finished mine on the train back to King's Cross Station. I had predicted that the Dursleys would lock our stuff under the staircase, inside the cupboard Harry used to sleep in; and when we got home, that's exactly what they did. Now Harry and Bonnie were forced to sneak out at night and do it secretly.
I stroked the soft, silky white fur of my cat, Unicorn. I had gotten him when he was so small that I could see the pink skin under his fur, but now he was fully grown and fluffy.
"Nixie, what's-" Harry began.
"Do it yourself, its all in the textbook," I said without taking my eyes off Unicorn. "You have to learn how to survive without me, Harry. What if I wasn't here?"
Bonnie's and Harry's heads snapped up after I said that, and their eyes visibly darkened.
