Hermione and I walked in the boys' dorms and Ron said, "Don't bring him in here!" In way of greeting, I think he meant Crookshanks because he hurriedly snatched up Scabbers and stuffed him in his pajama pockets.
Hermione wasn't listening, she was staring wide-eyes at a gleaming broomstick on Harry's bed, a Firebolt. I knew instantly what Hermione thought of this.
"Oh, Harry! Who sent you this?" She asked in a false cheery voice, though I knew that she was hoping that there was a card, at least.
"No idea," said Harry. "There wasn't a card or anything with it."
I seen the shock on Harry's face as Hermione's face fell, he probably thought she would be excited, but not crestfallen. Hermione bit her lip nerviously.
"Whats wrong with you?" Ron asked tactlessly.
"I don't know," Hermione said slowly. "Nixie just got the same broom, and no one put a letter in her's either. Its a bit odd, don't you think? I mean, this is supposed to be quite a good broom, isn't it?"
Ron signed in exasperation.
"Its the best broom there is, Hermione," he said.
"So they must have been really expensive...:"
"Probably cost more then all the Slytherin's brooms put together," said Ron happily, then he looked thoughtful. "Buying one of these brooms cost alot, but who would have enouph money to buy TWO?"
"Well... I just askd Nixie this, who'd send Harry and Nixie brooms as expensive as this, and not say that they sent it?" Hermione asked.
"Who cares?" said Ron impatiently. "Listen, Harry, can I have a go on it? Can I?
"I don't think anyone should ride those brooms just yet!" said Hermione shrilly.
Harry and Ron stared at her, while I fiddled with my locket nerviously, sensing a rather nasty fight coming.
"What d'you think Harry and Nixie ar going to do with them - sweep the floor?" said Ron
But before Hermione could answer, Crookshanks sprang from Seamus's bed, right at Ron's chest.
"GET - HIM - OUT - OF - HERE!" Ron bellowed as Crookshanks' claws ripped his pajamas and Scabbers attempted a wild escape over his shoulder. Ron siezed Scabbers by the tail and aimed a misjudged kick at Crookshanks that hit the trunk at the end of Harry's bed, knocking it over, and causing Ron to jump up and down, howling in pain.
"That - was - the - funniest - thing - ever!" I gasped, laughing myself crazy.
Ron glared at me furiously, apparently at lost for words to describe how angry he was at me for laughing at his pain. Unicorn hopped out of my arms and started to swagger around the room in her Santa outfit.
Crookshanks' fur suddenly stood on end. The room was filled with a shrill, tint, whistling. The Pocket Sneakoscope had dislogded from Uncle Vernon's socks and was now whirling and gleaming on the floor.
"You better take that cat out of here, Hermione," said Ron furiously.
I grabbed Unicorn and followed Hermione out of the boys' dorm.
"Well..." I said awkwardly after Hermione locked Crookshanks in our dorm. "That was a cheerful visit."
"Ron should never have tried to kick Crookshanks," Hermione said furiously. "Crookshanks is a cat, he doesn't understand that its wrong! Besides, Ron never even cared for that rat - sometimes he's just so - URGH!"
Hermione slammed her fist down on the arm of her chair, her cheeks red with anger.
"He always finds a way to blame everything on me!" she continued. "Its not MY fault Black is after you and Harry! I mean, what if your brooms WERE jinxed? It would be my fault if you and Harry d-died because I didn't warn you and R-Ron doesn't e-even care - Nixie, I don't think I could bare it if you died!"
