I sat there for a while, assuming that the Fat Lady would turn up sooner or later, but apparently she wasn't, so I went exploring through the castle.
It wasn't all fun and games, though. I heard teachers walking past corridors as though looking for something, it wasn't until Professor McGonagall and Professor Sprout past that I finally knew what was going on.
"Sirius Black in the castle," Professor Sprout signed. "How did he get past those Dementors? The Ministry keeps sending more and more."
"And whats worse is that we can't find Nixie Potter," McGonagall agreed, passing the corridor I was hiding in. "It is a bit suspicious."
"Nixie Potter would never help Black into the castle," Professor Sprout reasurred. "Sirius Black is after her and her brother."
"Your right," McGonagall signed, she seemed to be feeling less tense now. "She's probably lurking the corridors, she's been doing that alot."
"You never turned her in?" Professor Sprout sounded astounded.
"I couldn't, she looked as though it was something important..."
There voices faded out, and I was frozen. Sirius Black in the castle? But what did that have to do with the Fat Lady disapearing? Where was everyone?
I checked in empty classrooms and the east tower, but everyone seemed to gone. I finally left to the Great Hall, and I recieved a shock hen I seen rows of sleeping bags scattered across the floor.
"Oh my golly," I murmered.
"Shocking?" I heard the monotone voice of Severes Snape say from behind me.
I jumped half a foot in the air and whirled around, glaring up at Snape.
"Don't scare me like that," I growled.
Snape's lip curled as though his dream was coming true. "What were you doing lurking around the corridors at night, Potter?"
"Nothing." I said quickly. I mentally slapped myself, and it mentally hurt.
Snape grabbed my forearm and dragged me off to the middle of the hall, where Professor Dumbledore and Percy Weasley were talking.
"Professor Dumbledore," Snape drawled. "Look who I found lurking in the corridor."
"I wasn't lurking," I said defiantly. "I was searching. Why is everyone in the Great Hall?"
I looked around me, and spotted Harry, Ron, and Hermione squinting at me. They were tryng to appear asleep, but failing.
"Sirius Black has escaped into the castle, have any knowledge on how it could happen?" Dumbledore asked me.
"How would I..." It slwoly sunk in on how he said it. "Are you accusing me?"
"It is very suspicious that you were the only one here who wasn't going to their Common Room," Snape sneered. "And Black can't come in the castle without help from someone."
"That doesn't mean its me!" I was indignant now. Why would I help someone who is trying to kill me and Harry, it just made no sense.
"Ssssh," Percy hissed. "You'll wake up the students."
"Half of them are already awake so shush yourself." I hissed back.
The four of us looked around to see many students put their heads back down and snore loudly. Percy huffed and started to tell everyone to fall back to sleep.
"What were you doing, then" Snape said. "Out after dark?"
"I was visiting the kitchens because I missed the feast," I lied smoothly. "Before you ask, I missed the feast because I had to finish homework."
