The shopping with the Johnsons must have been the most awkward thing I have ever done. In fact, the level of awkwardness around us was so thick that all our movements became jerky and tense. The only one who didn't seem to notice was Dani, who was buying almost every cool thing she could collect.
The only bright side of the trip was when we passed a particular shop that made my eyes go wide with excitement. Animagus Supplies.
"I'm going to go, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson," I said politely, stopping them. "I saw something over there I want to buy - I'll see you at school Dani, Angelina..."
"Bye," they all said gratefully.
I shrugged and skipped into the shop, beaming at my surroundings.
I remembered last year, when I told Hermione that I wanted to become and unregistered Animagus. She really freaked out about that, but I still wanted to become one. She had begged me, and I felt slightly guilty as I gazed at the potions, but this was really important to me.
I could do so many things if I was an Animagus, so many things without being detected. All of these obstacles I had went through these past years, could have been avoided.
The shop was small and dark, all of the objects crowded into each other. There was a jar on one of the dusty shelves that was filled with a thick, green goop.
"Want to become an Animagus, eh?" asked a raspy voice.
I jumped and whirled around, emerald eyes wide as I stared at the hunched figure in front of me. He had wild white hair, and round black eyes, his face was pale and wrinkly and he was extremely tall and intimidating.
"Uh - yeah," I said, drawing myself at full height. "I do. Where are the instructions?"
"Hard thing, becoming an Animagus," the man went on, as though he didn't hear me. "Difficult potions, horrid side affects, and you could get in extreme trouble if you don't plan on being registered... are you going to be registered?"
"Yes," I lied easily.
The man's eyes ran over me suspiciously. I knew he didn't believe me, but I kept up the facade.
"What are the side affects?" I asked nervously, shifting my feet.
"Burning pains, hallucinations, hiccups, dizziness, and so much more..." The man whispered, though it filled the empty shop and made me shiver just a bit. "I don't usually care if my customers become registered or not, just that they are willing not to come crying to me when they get the potions wrong."
"I am going to be registered, and I am really good at potions," I said. "Can you direct me to the instructions?"
"Here," he handed me a thick book that had no title on it, but it did have a thick layer of dust. "Read it carefully, do it correctly, and you'll be fine."
