CHAPTER 1 | AN AUROR'S DUTY

December 1926

DARK FORCES AT HAND!

Over the past few years, the Wizarding World had known about the treacherous deeds that the infamous wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, had done. Most of his actions had already spread over, not only within the borders of Europe but also across the vast seas, such as in America. People around the borders of the United Kingdom and Ireland are advised to be alert and inform the nearest wizarding authorities about the subject matter. ❞

Her brown eyes savoured every detail—every word that was printed on the Daily Prophet. The scent of the morning paper tried to ease her nerves, but the content of it made her head explode. It's been six, going on seven, years since she entered the grisly world of the Auror Department. Good three years for being one of the best members that there is. Almost seven years since she was sucked into a portal of the never-ending search for Grindelwald.

After the events that had happened back in her years in Hogwarts, which was the time when Newt was expelled for bringing an unauthorized creature around the school grounds, She had been told about her remarks in all her classes. Since Adelaide favoured Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, the female didn't have any trouble in exceeding her Potions and Herbology classes. It was a tough three years of training; knowing that the Ministry would need more arms in defeating the Grindelwald's men, they train their applicants, exceeding their expectations.

The brunette stood up from her seat in the living room, leaving the Daily Prophet on the table in front of the maroon couch. Her home in Godric's Hollow seems a bit of a mixture of the four Houses of Hogwarts. Her living room feels like the Common Room of the Gryffindor house; the other room has the vibe of the Ravenclaws, since it's full of books and stacks of old, but freshly smelling, parchments. The garden was made as a tribute to the Slytherins, seeing that they get so much criticism for being the house that has a lot of malevolent witches and wizards in its' history, Lupin thought that there are still great members in it, they were just unrecognised.

The female's favourite part of her abode was her bedroom. Being the badger that she is, her decorations were inspired by her dormitory. Even if the girl doesn't mention it, deep down, Ade misses the feeling of being told what to do and what not to do; their Head of House giving her schedules for her classes, the pranks of the Weasleys and Prewetts around the Great Hall— those were good times. But now, she has to face the music in order to survive.

The long hours of searching, the sweaty moments when you run for ten kilometres straight to chase a supporter of Gellert in front of the eyes of a lot of muggles in London, the flashing lights of the photographer from the Prophet, Ruberta Skeeter's irritating voice that leads to an auror escorting the woman out from their sight— those are just some of the works that she endured in her years.

There was no reason for the woman to hate her job since she was the one who chose it. If she did, Adelaide may seem to look like a hypocrite, trying to use her position for fame, which wasn't the case.
