Remember When....

Realization

The next day I wake up to find a note on Caylen's nightstand.

It read : we went to the store for a little while will be back by 12- mom and dad.

I smiled and looked over at my girlfriend still sleeping. I just lay there admiring her beauty when she wakes up. She smiles bright and I kiss her cheek.

"Good morning baby" I say happily and she replies the same.

"How'd you sleep?" I asked concerned for it being the first night back home since the accident.

"Oh babe it was amazing. I had a dream about that one time I went on a scuba diving trip with my school. I saw all these sea creatures it was so realistic." She said excitedly and I became scared

"Babe you've never been scuba diving."

"Yeah I have remember when I took training courses in school and my dad paid for a scuba trip for a weekend?"

I felt the tears gather in my eyes. I got up and went to the bathroom before I started crying and Caylen's just laid there confused. I heard Caylen's on her phone while I was in the bathroom.

"Babe?" She called out "are you okay?"

I replied "yes baby I'm great." As fake as I can and came out.

"You hungry baby?" I asked and she nodded quickly.

"Starving" she said.

I smiled and asked what she wanted.

"How about..." she started smirking.

"What's going through that beautiful head of yours my dear?" I asked knowing that she was up to something.

"How about you make some of your famous brown sugar, cinnamon pancakes."

I giggled at how happy she was for wanting them. "If I get a good morning kiss first." I say blushing.

She hops out of bed and kisses me so hard I barely had any time to grasp what was going on. She grabbed my hand and led me downstairs.

I grabbed all the ingredients and started cooking. I'm a terrible cook so this is basically the only thing I know how to cook. She gobbled down 4 pancakes in under 15 minutes and I just sat there laughing at my dork of a girlfriend.

"You go upstairs and I'll clean up." I told her and she headed up the stairs.

By the time I was almost done cleaning everything, her parents got home.

"Hey sweetheart." Robert said as he put down a couple grocery bags then went out to the car for more.

I snooped around to find out what they got but was caught by Stacey giggling behind me. I turned around quick, my cheeks red and hot from embarrassment of being caught.

"You need to work on your snooping skills my dear. You're slacking." Stacey said with a little giggle here and there.

I smiled awkwardly and went upstairs after checking to make sure I cleaned up everything and put it all away. I look down the hall and see Shane's door open.

I could've sworn I shut that door.

I walk into his room to see Caylen standing in he middle of the room looking around at everything there is.

"You okay babe?" I ask coming up behind her slowly so I don't startle her.

"Remember when there was a piano in here?" She asked, continuously looking around.

"Okay, you can stop messing with me now." I said with a little irritation in my voice.

She turned around and looked at me with her brow furrowed into a questioning glare. That was the moment I realized things would never be the same again. I go back downstairs to grab Stacey and Robert. We go out in the backyard so Caylen couldn't hear us.

"Woah Kelsey, what's wrong?" Said Robert.

I looked between both of them "Something is really wrong with Caylen."

"Honey, she's been in a bad accident." Says Stacey rubbing my arm.

"No mom! Like I mean something really bad. She's not the same. She keeps trying to get me to remember things that never happened. Every time she does that she looks at me like I'm crazy."

They look at each other and then back at me "How many times has she done it since the accident?" Asked Robert

"Three times." I said frantically.

They both look at the window then Robert comes up to my side and whispers in my ear "we will talk about this later."

They both walk in the house and I turn around to see Caylen standing there looking at me from inside the house. I smile and walk towards her.

"What's wrong baby?" She asks concerned

"Nothing baby I just needed some advice about my schooling. Nothing to worry your beautiful little head about." I reply then kiss her cheek.

"Wanna go watch a movie?" I ask and she nods. "Okay great. Then let's go."

I guide her inside. I walk by Stacey and Robert unpacking and putting away groceries. They both look at me and I walk upstairs with Caylen closely behind me.

"You pick the movie babe." I said and she went to her movie drawer to select one.
