Debating the Details

I looked at the house peacefully from my spot high in the squirrel tree, thinking about my latest flashback and what had happened last night.

There's something super familiar about Miss Peregrine, but what? I could have sworn I've seen her before. The sound of flapping wings snapped me from my thoughts.

I look up and spot a bird flying towards me. It's moving rather fast, so it's obviously a bird of prey. It perches at the edge of the branch I'm sitting on, and I sit up straighter.

"Pearly?!" She jumps at the rise of my voice. "Sorry, but where have you been?" She lowers her head in shame, and my heart softens.

"Gee, I'm sorry...I shouldn't have yelled at you like that." I raise my arm. "Please, perch on my arm." She looks at me with those enchanting black eyes, and for a moment I freeze, unsure if she still trusts me. But then she flies over and perches on my forearm, talons pricking my skin and drawing pinpricks of blood. I wince slightly before gently stroking her breast.

"Pearly, I've missed you." I pulled my arm to my chest so I could stroke the back of her head. Placing a hand on her back, I slowly pulled her in closer so that her head could rest in between my breasts. Sighing happily, I placed a kiss atop her head.

"Oh Pearly, if only you were human." And for a moment, I could have sworn I heard her sigh sadly.
