Since we found out about Casey being pregnant, it's been a roller-coaster of emotions. In all fairness, they were good ones. Mom was already planning things, Matt was more enthusiastic than I've ever seen him, and Casey kinda just goes with it all.
I guess Liam and I are a different story. He's been distant. I don't think it has anything to do with Casey being pregnant, though. When she announced it, he seemed happy for her so I know it's not that.
Whatever it was, I couldn't figure it out. I just wanted to give in and ask him, but I think it would mean more to him if I went with it.
I walked down the stairs from my room and into the kitchen. I walked over to Mom and gave her a peck on the cheek and did the same thing to Casey and Matt.
I was in a pleasant mood if you couldn't tell. Mom always tells me, "Smile like there's no tomorrow and love like there's no today." My mother has very inspirational quotes of life.
I sat down at the kitchen table where my mother placed my food down. She made us pancakes and bacon which is Casey's personal favorite, even though the rest of us don't mind it.
I was nibbling on a piece of bacon when I heard a knock on the door. I popped out of my seat and went to open it. To my surprise, it was Liam. When Liam comes over anymore, he doesn't really bother to knock. It's basically his second home.
He came in and he didn't look right. His black hair was matted and looked like he got out of bed and didn't even run his fingers through it. His beautiful eyes that I'm so used to seeing looked dull and lifeless. Just something was odd and it concerned me.
"Hey, Chloe's mom," Liam said once he got into the kitchen and sat down on the bar stool.
Liam doesn't want to call my mom by her first name because he thinks it's disrespectful. Mom doesn't seem to get annoyed and Liam likes calling her that so it's a win-win.
My mom turned so she can smile at him, "Hello, Dear. There's some pancakes on the table if you're hungry." Liam nodded his head and smiled like a little kid, but I knew it was an act for her. His eyes were still lifeless and he seemed to be mopping.
Liam sat down at the table and put a pancake and a piece of bacon. Considering how he usually is, I know everyone in the room noticed his strange behavior. Of course, no one was going to bring it up. If he wanted to tell anyone anything, he would. We didn't need to ask and risk making something bad happen when it could've been avoided.
"Thanks, Chloe's mom," Liam started talking with his mouth full but one glare from Mom, and he finished his bite before speaking again. "for the food. Funny enough, I didn't come here for the food but it's always nice."
I saw my mom beaming with pride. I mean, Matt, Casey, and I all compliment her on her cooking skills, but I think Liam's another story. He's like her child, but it means more to her.
"Thank you. Anytime you want food, you know you're always welcome." My mother said with a genuine smile. Liam gave her a smile in return but it wasn't nearly as sincere as the one my mother gave.
Liam rocked back and forth on his heels while clapping his hands. The awkwardness in the room was growing thick and I was desperately wanting someone to do something in the near future.
My mother looked at Liam then looked at me and gave a smile. "Go. I know you didn't come here to chat with me." I laughed at my mom's words and Liam turned a light pink.
Instead of a verbal response, he simply grabbed my hand and pulled me to the front door. His hold on my hand was tighter than usual. It was almost like he didn't want to leave or get lost. Just in the way it was, I was on the verge of tears.
