Frozen like a deer in headlights

I slowly and hesitantly turned around, with my eyes closed and I slowly opened them when I sensed that I was face to face with her. “Rebekah” I breathed out in a slight whisper.

Rebecca grabbed my arm at quick speed, and next thing I know we were inside a car. Her hands were shaking as she tried to put the keys into ignition. Twice she dropped the keys and she cursed. She shakily drove out of the high school parking lot and out into the highway. She drove for a while without saying anything, she was just crying silently and seriously speeding down the highway. After a while, she abruptly stopped beside the highway, took the keys out of ignition and she looked at me for the first time since we got into her car.

“Wh .. What- Wha .. What are you doing here? How are you even here?” she cried more, her big blue eyes glistening as her tears were pouring out. Then out of nowhere, she hugged me … she hugged me with everything in her and I broke down and cried with her.

We stayed like that for what seemed like hours, we were just hugging and crying together.

“I can’t believe you’re back. I've missed you so much. I .. I just am still in shock. You were the last person I thought I would see today ... or ever. I thought you had gone from our lives for good, Nicky” Rebekah finally calmed down a little.

“I know, love, after everything that has happened, I couldn’t just go on not seeing you.” I said. Rebekah smiled at the little term of endearment; they were so much alike in their mannerisms.

“How did you even know I was here or much less that I was alive? The last time we saw each other I was being daggered by my idiotic, callous, heartless brother in the 20s and I believe my brother was trying to do the same to you” Rebekah rolled her eyes. I inhaled deeply, we had so many things to cover and talk about because so many years have passed, but I thought we shouldn't be doing this beside a highway.

“Can we go somewhere with copious amounts of alcohol and catch up? Let's just talk about everything, like we always used to, like we always did. I have a feeling this will go smoother with tequila” I smirked.

“Why do I get a feeling that Niklaus will make an appearance in this story?” Rebekah smirked as she pulled back into the highway and drove.

“Niklaus always finds a way to center himself into people’s lives” I rolled my eyes.

“The Grill” I said with a little apprehension. “Is this the best this place has to offer?”

“Well for teenage, social interactions, yes and for local townspeople gossiping about and drowing out their sorrows with alcohol, another yes” Rebekah laughed as she parallel parked in front of the Grill.

“Well, I’ve never been here so let’s hope this doesn’t disappoint” I said while getting out of the red Porsche Carerra.

We both walked into the Grill, arm in arm and we were laughing and joking but as soon as the doors opened, Rebekah froze. “Oh my goodness, Matt’s here”

“I mean obviously Matt should be here, he works here, I am so daft. I can’t go in here and see him” Rebekah nearly hyperventilated and she begged me to go to her house instead.

“Woah, woah, woah. First of all, okay, calm down, breathe. Whoever this Matt person is, we are going to walk in there and we are going to down tequilas until we can no longer walk. Fuck guys. And second, we are not going to your house, absolutely not, for the most obvious reasons.” I attempted to pep talk her and take this insane idea of going to her house, out of her head.

“Yes indeed, fuck guys.” She breathed out. “But first let me go to the ladies room and attempt to look like decent human being” She bolted to the bathroom and I made my way towards the bar where Matt was bartending. Hey I figured I might as well get a feel as to who this guy is.

Matt’s POV

“Hi there, I’m new in town so I would really like some celebratory, welcome to Mystic Falls tequila shots. Six in a row right here.” said one of the most insanely gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen in my life and with the sexiest British accent.

I couldn’t move for a second, but I quickly composed myself and made some tequila shots. I was obviously so nervous around this girl that I filled the shot glass way past the brim, twice. I mean everything was just spilling and I was spazzing out.

When I went back to the girl, Rebekah was sitting next to her and this gave me a sour feeling in my mouth.

“Hi Matt” Rebekah said meekly.

“Rebekah” I nodded coldly. Hey, she deserves it after everything she and her brothers have done to Elena and our friends. She may be freaking hot but now is not the time to just let those things slide.

“Matt I’m sorry .. I” Rebekah started “Can we not do this right now? I’m working” I brushed her off and went to the other end of the bar to serve Mr. Saltzman and Meredith Fell.

Nicky’s POV

“What the bloody hell was his issue?” I remarked after downing my first tequila shot.

“I don’t even know where to begin … “ Rebekah trailed off. “But first, why are you even here?” she asked. “Not that I don’t want you here but after everything’s that’s been going on lately, well my brothers will be totally mind blown if they find out you’re here.”

“Well I heard it from Rose a few months back that the other Petrova doppelganger has been found here in little Mystic Falls and that Elijah was personally handing her over to Niklaus.” Saying his name was like swallowing a mouthful of verveine but I continued.  “So then I thought that meant that if I got my ass to Mystic Falls and I would find you and Elijah”

“And Niklaus” Rebekah said under her breath.

"Well I guess, yes, I was hoping to get a glimpse of him as well." I gave in. "But he's not a priority, you are love. And I desperately want to see Elijah. I miss him"

"Well I can take you to him, or I can call Elijah to come over." Rebekah motioned to get her phone out of her purse. "That should be a change for Niklaus, not being the priority in everyone's lives. I swear he is not happy until everyone around him is suicidal or bloody mad because of him. He is still unbearable, nothing has changed on that front."

“It’s not very nice to talk crap about your dearest brother, Rebekah” that voice was like a cold blade to my heart. I froze. I literally could not move. I inhaled deeply which was a bad mistake because now I have a lungful of his scent. I got dizzy and I was just frozen. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

“Now love, why don’t you introduce me to your little friend.” Niklaus’ smooth voice said.
