Nicky’s POV
I woke up feeling really great; I had a dream about Niklaus and I, from when we were young, before he had turned into a vampire. It was a really sweet dream and an incredibly special moment in our life together as a couple; it's such a cherished memory that it almost felt like it was just yesterday.
The dream, or more like the memory, was like this:
Rebekah and I were laughing and sitting by a field, making little daisy chains and talking about the potential man that she could marry. “I wish him to be strong, and fiercely loyal and loving. I want him to only have eyes for me and cater to my every desire” she wistfully said. “I am more than positive you will find the man of your dreams, Rebekah” I smiled at her. “You, on the other hand, you’re going to be so loved when you and Niklaus marry. He is going to spoil you. He has no eyes for another, only you. ”
“What makes you so sure I’m going to marry Niklaus?” I asked while she braided my hair, in a teasing manner of course, because I know it in my bones that we will marry. “Because I know everything. Because he talks about you as if you cause the sun to shine every morning and the stars to glimmer every night; because you two are beyond in love, need I say more?” She pointedly looked at me.
“When he heard that Thomas wanted to ask for your hand in marriage, he nearly ran over to their house to force him to duel. Good thing Elijah was there to talk some sense into him.” She informed me. “Niklaus what? He knows my affections lay only with him, why must that cross his mind to do that?” I asked, shocked to know that the man who holds my affection would act in such a rash manner. “And the other month he wanted to do the same when Eadwig asked for your hand in marriage, or the week before that when Arthur asked as well or when Wigstan did so before that. The point is he would go to war for you – a one man army of a man in love.” She sighed. “I so love that Niklaus has found you. I can hardly wait until we are to be sisters.” She hugged me, kissed the top of my head and placed a daisy chain on top of it.
We had continued to talk and laugh when we saw Elijah, and Niklaus making their way towards us. “Beautiful day isn’t it?” Elijah commented. “It is perfect today.” Rebekah laughed with glee. “Sister, mother wanted fresh flowers for the house, shall you join me in picking them by the hills?” Elijah asked. “I know what you’re up to.” Rebekah knowingly looked from Niklaus to Elijah. “But I shall play the part, so yes Elijah, I shall go with you.” She kissed the top of my head “I’ll see you later my sweets.” She looked at Niklaus with a knowing smile and both Rebekah and Elijah left without another word.
“Very smooth Niklaus.” I smiled, letting him know that I’ve picked up on his little scheme with his brother. “Wanted some alone time with me now, did you?” I teased. “Nothing gets by you, my love” he commented and kissed me. “That’s why I fancy you so much, you’re unlike anyone I’ve met.” I felt my cheeks getting hot at this comment. “You look beautiful with the flowers in your hair.” He said, twisting a lock of my hair between his fingers. I took his face between my hands and kissed him. We talked for a long time, with me lying down on the grass, my head on his lap and he was playing with my hair. We talked for hours and soon enough it was nearly sun down. “I shall walk you home, my love.” Niklaus said when I told him that I should be getting home to help my mother with preparing supper since it’s already almost sundown. He entwined our hands and steered me towards the longer path to get back to the village. “Niklaus, this will take longer, shall we just cross the fields instead?” I asked him, pointing towards the opposite direction from where he intended to take me. He stood in front of me, parted my hair and tucked it behind my ear, then he lightly held onto the back of my neck and kissed me so passionately, I had forgotten momentarily about where we were. “I think your mother can manage to cook up the soup without you. Take a walk with me my love.” He whispered, kissing each of my hands. How does a girl even say no to that? I simply nodded. He entwined our fingers again and we walked through the forest. Then out of nowhere, there were twinkling lights all over the forest. As I looked closer, they were jars that contained fireflies and it seemed there were a thousand jars all around me. “Niklaus” I breathed out in amazement. He looked at me intently and then he went down on one knee; by then I had forgotten how to breathe. “Nicolette Weston, you are the woman I want to spend the rest of my days with. I want to grow old with you and I want you to bear my children. I cannot imagine another woman by my side. Nothing in this world will make me happier than knowing you will be my love, my best friend and my companion through all of time. Bestow upon me the greatest honor of all and marry me?” he said emotionally, his eyes were glistening as though he was going to cry. “Yes!” I breathed out. He slipped a gorgeous ring on my fourth ring finger on my left hand. Then he slowly got up and gently grabbed my face and kissed me.
