Prompt: We're both actors in the same tv show and our fans ship our characters and us together and I actually have a huge crush on you AU.
John Laurens was standing off set, watching his co-stars shoot the closing scene of the day. He ate some finger food while trying to discreetly watch one of his co-stars -Alexander Hamilton- shoot with another co-star- Angelica Schuyler. He was always such a great actor (at least in John's opinion).
The show was set in a dystopian future, where an epidemic had wiped out most of the world's population, and the problems that the characters faced. In the last episode, the characters found a safe place for young women. The scene the two were currently shooting is when the characters discover the 'safe haven' forcefully impregnate the residents in a twisted plan to repopulate. John didn't know how the writers came up with this stuff, but it was quite a dark episode. Angelica was doing a great job portraying her character's fear and confusion.
John wasn't very prominent in this episode, but he didn't mind. He liked being able to look at Alexander without it being weird anyway.
"Alright annnddd cut!" Said the director, Thomas 'Jeffersin', as Alexander liked to say.
"Hamilton I don't know if I'm getting enough emotion from you, I would like to film it again, but we don't have enough time." Jefferson said, jeering.
"Now I have to pick the best take out of these four mediocre ones?"
Alexander smiled through gritted teeth and Laurens' said:
"I thought they were all pretty good."
"Of course, you would say that." Jefferson replied, John tried not to dwell too much on what he meant.
"Welp c'mon Jemmy, we got to make sure editing doesn't fork this up in post-production!"
James muttered "Don't call me that." And followed Jefferson out.
Laurens immediately walked up to Alex after the duo left.
"Forget him, Jefferson doesn't know what he's talking about." Laurens said.
"Yeah, it seems like he never does." Alex said, smiling.
Hercules walked out from the behind the set, with a sad Lafayette following.
"It was just such a sad episode!" Lafayette said.
"You read the script a billjillion times before we filmed." Hercules pointed out.
"Yeah, but it's different-" *sniff* "-seeing it." Lafayette said.
Alex chuckled at the whole ordeal and turned toward Laurens.
"So you wanna hang out at the bar after we head out of here?" He asked.
"Yeah sure, I'll ask the guys."
Alex nodded and turned to walk away.
"Honey-glazed Ham wants to hang out at the bar, wanna come?" Laurens said, once he found the two.
Hercules and Lafayette shared a knowing and devious glance before Lafayette said:
"Nah, mon ami. We would rather not be there while you and Alexander, how you say....undress each other with your eyes."
Herc started laughing, and gave him a high-five.
"We don't do that." John grumbled and walked away, as the two snickered.
~~~Time Skip~~~~~
John did not remember a whole lot after that. He remembered going to the bar with Alex and the Schuylar Sisters. He remembered Peggy making them order shot after shot (They should have named her Tequila). He also remembered Alex and him posting a photo and someone saying something about 'queer baiting'.
What he did not remember is how he ended up in Alexander's apartment, them cuddling in his bed. It was morning, and Alex was deeply asleep when John woke up. He's not gonna lie, he wasn't complaining. They were still dressed, so luckily it seems like they didn't do anything. That didn't make John any less anxious.
It was no secret he was gay, and he was thrown into the spotlight as an openly gay actor of a major tv series, who was also a main character. Alexander was bisexual, but he wasn't out yet.
It was also no secret that most of the fandom shipped their characters, like hardcore. John's character was best friends with Alex's; one of the main points in the show being their character's need to not lose each other. They laughed all the time at the fanart (Alex always thanked the fandom for drawing him so beautifully).
John decided to try and maintain his friendship with Alex, rather than trying to see if it could be something more.
He savored the moment for a bit, then quickly got up and out of Alex's arms. Alex stirred, but did not wake up. John convinced himself to just leave, and talk to Hamilton at work. Besides, it wasn't like there was much to talk about. Alex would probably apologize and say something like, he didn't see John 'in that way'.
John arrived at work with a bad feeling in his gut and a little late. He wasn't ready to face Hamilton and the rejection that waited. Or worse yet, he might not remember anything at all from last night.
"Look who the cat dragged in." He heard Eliza say.
"John, pull out a script we're reviewing because I want to get this scene done today." Jefferson ordered.
They were shooting the scene after the one filmed yesterday. The group was planning an escape and after some chaos ensues, sacrifices have to be made.
"Alright, John and Peggy get into position on stage left, Hamilton walks into the scene and the dialogue starts." James says.
With lights and set into position, Jefferson yells "Action!" And the camera starts rolling.
A/N: Out of clarity (and my bad writing) the character names correspond with the 'actors'.
John and Peggy struggle to hold a door shut. Hamilton runs into the room from an opposite door."Did you get my sisters out?" Peggy asks desperately.
Alexander nods, and holds the door closed in place of Peggy.
"I barricaded the door I came in from, but the back window should be open. Climb out- everyone distracted trying to open the doors- that leaves clear space for you to run to the meeting spot." Alex says.
Peggy runs off screen.
"You weren't supposed to come back..." John says.
"Well, you didn't talk to me before leaving," Alex replies, "But, I couldn't just leave you here."
That first part was off-script. Everyone noticed, but Jefferson didn't stop the scene.
John shrugs.
"I didn't think you'd care."
"I didn't realize I still needed to prove that."
"We may be friends, but you don't need to do this for me. I can take care of myself."
"But I want to!" Alex says.
"Again I ask why? You don't need to keep making sacrifices for me."
Hamilton's character was supposed to go on a rant about how John was the only family he had left. But instead, Alex grabbed John's collar, pulled him down to his height (John actually wasn't that much taller than him) and gave him a passionate kiss. It was full of energy and love and... maybe some relief.
"Are were gonna re-shoot this scene, Thomas?" James whispered to him.
"Are you kidding?" He responded, "This is raw emotion; the most authentic I'm gonna get out of Hamilton."
"This is an acting goldmine! Genuine, believable," He continued "Besides we have a gay actor in prime TV, imagine having a gay relationship."
"Are you sure the network will go along with it?" James said, "And what about Alexander ending up with Eliza?"
"Screw it, we'll figure it out," He said "We both know it was down to those two ships anyway."
Thomas ended the scene, and Alex and John blushed profusely.
"The fandom is gonna eat this up!" Thomas said excitedly.
