Alex's POV
It took me a few days to rally the strength to talk to him about it. I once threatened to kick Jefferson's ass without second thought, yet this confrontation was making me anxious.

"Hey Lexi." John greeted with a bright smile. He had recently taken a liking to that nickname and it always made me red in the face.

"Hello? Alex, you with me?"

"Wha- yeah, I'm listening." Of course, I hadn't heard a word he said, but I was deep in thought.

"You've been out of it, what's wrong?" He said, touching my shoulder.

"Oh nothing, just one of those days," I replied, "So John...tell me about your merchant life again."

"Mmm you know, just taking the kingdoms resources and selling the exports to other kingdoms."

"How big is your ship? Do you have a crew? Do you have to leave soon?"

"Look Alex," He said standing closer, "We don't need to worry about that right now."

Before an answer like this would've sufficed, but not right now.

"Why do you have to keep secrets from me?" I grumbled.

"Why are you suddenly upset?" He questioned, surprised.

"Because," I took a breath, "I know."

"You know...what?"

"I know that you're the prince."

His face told me enough.

"H-how'd you-"

"Doesn't matter. You lied to me."

"Please, Alex this doesn't have to change anything." He said, stepping closer, "I mean w-would we have what we do now if you knew I was the prince that day?"

And my thoughts slowly began to muddle up again.

"Why'd you do it?" I sneered.

"I-I don't know, at first it was just to see what it was like here, to live here, the types of people..."

"So poor princey came out to see how things were like for us measly peasants? At the end of the day you get to go back. But us? We're stuck with it. The disease, starvation, all of it. You get to play peasant for a day, but we have to live it!" I jeered.

"Stop talking to me like that!"

"Like, what?"

"Like I'm some, some..."

"Over-pampered prince who came out to screw around with peasants?"

"Fuck off Alexander. You don't get to suddenly act above me now that you know I'm the prince. Yeah, I made a mistakes, but that doesn't make you any better than me."

"But I'm not the one who lied, now am I?"

The tension in the room was suffocating, as we stood in silence.

"You...should just go." I muttered.

"Yeah, maybe I will."

And with that, he walked out of my life.

John's POV
It had been a week after my falling out with Alex and I had spent that time sheltered in my room. Hercules and Laf tried to drag me out, but eventually gave up.

"Everyone get moving!" I suddenly heard from outside.

"Well, your dad decided on a way to connect with the people." Hercules mused when I checked out all the commotion.
