Chapter Nine

That one little boy's name was Phillip. He and Phoebe played together once, when her friend Marlee wasn't at school. He pretended to be a firefighter, one who saved Clawdeen from a fire. When Clawdeen was cooking, her stove caught on fire and she got stuck. Firefighter Phillip came just in time and kept Clawdeen from getting hurt. Phoebe and Phillip hadn't talked since, but Phillip always watched out for her. That one day when Phoebe woke up and screamed during nap time, he couldn't fall back asleep because he was worried.

When Phoebe got stung by a bee the day after show and tell, Phillip ran over and held Phoebe in a hug until the playground teacher came and helped.

The next day, Phillip played with Phoebe and Marlee, even though the other boys teased him.

Phoebe had a dream about Phillip, the night he played with her for the first time. She and him we both much older, but she could still tell it was him and her. She had long, curly brown hair, and he had shaggy blonde hair, but it was still them none the less.

They ran and skipped in a field of flowers, had a picnic, and jumped through a sprinkler. They were having so much fun, Phoebe was giggling when she woke up.

What she woke up to was horrifying. Her Frankie doll was missing! There was water all over her floor, like tracks. She screamed for her parents and began to follow them. The footprints led to the bathroom, where what she saw truly scarred her for life.
