Chapter Sixteen

Phoebe really wanted to meet Phillip. That is, if it was really him. She couldn't face him yet, but she promised herself she would approach him tomorrow. Maybe.

She heard her name being called from down the hallway. She turned, only to see "Phillip" rushing after her.

"Phoebe!" Her eyes sparkled when he recognized her. She stopped, college students rushing around her, yelling at her to keep moving. She apologized to a few of them, but most either ignored her or swore at her.

Phillip finally caught up and unexpectedly embraced Phoebe in a large hug. She blushed, but hugged him back nevertheless.

"Hello, Phillip!"

"Ah, so you do remember me!" He chuckled, excitement written on his face.

"How could I forget the boy who saved my dolls from a fiery death?" She asked, childlike innocence shining in her brown eyes. "I'm surprised you remember me."

"How could I forget my first crush?" Phillip asked, mimicking her sentence construction.

Phoebe laughed. "You're much bolder than I recall."

"You're much prettier than I remember. Er, not that you weren't pretty before, but we were really little, and..." Phillip noticed her looking at him and smirking, and he began to laugh. "That was really awkward."

"Yes, it was."

They both began to talk again, about their classes, about the weather, about their lives since second grade. Neither of them brought up Marlee. Phoebe had forgotten mostly about Marlee, about how her murder was never solved, but she still thought of her old best friend almost every day.

Phillip walked Phoebe to her next class, Trigonometry. He promised that they'd meet after class, and before he left, he kissed her cheek.

Phoebe still felt tingles an hour later.
