Did you hear the prayers
That I sent up to you last night?
Did you see the tears
That slipped from the corners of my eyes?
When your heart stopped beating,
Mine broke into pieces,
No more phone calls,
No more text messages.
The world you left a better place,
Even in the short time you were here.
Does it get any easier?
Does it ever hurt any less?
What I would give
To see your smile,
Feel your embrace,
To hold you in my arms.
I swear
I’d never let go.
One more day,
One more time.
One more opportunity.
A chance to say good bye.
My heart hurts,
For you it yearns.
‘Let him go,’
They tell me.
‘He’s in a better place,’
They’ve said.
In God’s arms
I know you reside,
But in my arms,
I need for you to be inside.
‘He was a great person,
He died a hero,’
Is what people say,
And I agree,
But why you?
Why couldn’t it have been someone else?
Why couldn’t someone else’s heart be broken instead?
