Chapter 33

Caroline's POV

After I left Joey's apartment, I went back to mine to get my car keys. I don't know where I'm going, but anywhere is better than here. Eventually, I found myself parked in front of South Street Hospital. I'm not sure why I chose to come here out of all the places I could have gone to. I'm not sure why, but I chose to see Sam.

Remembering which room he's in, I took an elevator to the third floor and walked into room 304. When I walked in, Sam was eating.

Me: "How's the arm?"
Sam: "It's getting there. You know I didn't think you'd come back."
Me: "I didn't think I would either."
Sam: "What happened? And don't say nothing because I know you, Caroline."

Sam always knew when I was upset over something. When we were dating I always wondered how he could figure it out so easily. It's still a mystery to me.

Me: "I got into an argument with Joey."
Sam: "Oh."
Me: "Yep. And I said something I shouldn't have."
Sam: "What did you say?"
Me: "I told him to stop being a dick."

Sam laughed.

Me: "It sounds funny, but I'm really mad that I said that."
Sam: "I know."

He started laughing again.

Me: "What are you laughing at now?"
Sam: "Remember when you called Jacob a dick during lunch and everyone sitting around us looked at you?"

Jacob was Sam's best friend in high school. They stopped talking to each other during Senior year. I still don't know what happened between them.

Me: (laughing) "That was so embarrassing. I almost died of humiliation."

For a while we kept talking about embarrassing high school memories; mostly from junior year. It was a nice relief from stressing out about Joey and Jessica. I was in the middle of a story when Dr. Carlson entered the room.

Dr. Carlson: "I though I heard you in here."
Me: "You heard correctly."
Dr. Carlson: "While you're here, I have some information to share with you about Sam."
Me: "Oh, ok."
Dr. Carlson: "So there's three things. The first is that there's a 70% chance Sam won't regain his memory. We've ran a few tests and the part of the brain that stores memory was slightly damaged from the car accident."
Me: "Wow."

'Wow' was the only word that I could manage to get out of my mouth. I don't really know how to react to this. I look over to Sam. He's looks back at me, as if he's waiting for more of a reaction. When he realizes I probably won't give him one, he says something.

Sam: "I don't want it back anyways. I'm better off not remembering what I did."
Dr. Carlson: "The second is that his arm should be out of its cast in a month and a half."
Me: "That's good."
Sam: "Yeah."
Dr. Carlson: "And the third is that he should be able to check out of the hospital in two days."
Sam: "Awesome!"
Dr. Carlson: "Alright, well I have to go tend to another patient, so I'll talk to you guys later."
Sam and I: "Bye."

After the doctor left the room, my eyes returned to Sam.

Sam: "So I've thought about it and-"
Me: "Thought about what?"
Sam: "What happens next."
Me: "Oh."
Sam: "I think I want to go back to Denver."
Me: "Are you sure?"
Sam: "Yeah. LA is your place, not mine."
Me: "I guess that's true."
Sam: "I'll probably leave in a few weeks or something."

The room fell silent.

Sam: "So you must really love him, huh?"
Me: "What?"
Sam: "Joey."

Well that was a little bit random.

Me: "Yeah. I love him a lot. He's my best friend. Although we aren't talking to each other right now because of our disagreement, I wish we were."
Sam: "Wait, he's ignoring you?"
Me: "I'm not even sure at this point. He hasn't tried to call me or text me or anything."
Sam: "Did you try to call him?"
Me: "No."
Sam: "Call him then."
Me: "I don't know if I can."
Sam: "Of course you can."
Me: "I guess I'll try."

I went into the hallway and called Joey. He answered the call after the third ring.

Me: "Joey?"

He didn't say anything.

Me: "Joey, I know you're listening and that you don't want to talk to me right now and I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to talk to me either. But we need to talk to fix 'us'."

I waited a couple of seconds to see if he would say anything, even though I knew he wouldn't.

Me: "Meet me at the park we hung out at last Sunday. The one we took all those pictures at. I'll be there in 20 minutes. I hope you show up."

I hung up and went back into Sam's room.

Sam: "So?"
Me: "I'm meeting up with him. Hopefully. I'm not even sure he'll show up."
Sam: "He will if he loves you as much as you love him."

That made me smile.

Me: "I have to leave now if I want to get there on time."
Sam: "Good luck with him."
Me: "Thanks Sam."

-at the park-

When I got to the park, I sat down on a bench and looked for Joey. I looked around for him for 10 minutes but didn't see him. I guess he isn't coming. I started to tear up. But then I saw him. He was walking towards me. I got up from the bench and ran towards him. When I got to him, I jumped into his arms and started crying.

Me: "I'm so sorry. I'm the worst girlfriend ever."
Joey: "I'm sorry, too. And don't say that. You're the best girlfriend ever."
Me: "No, I'm not."
Joey: "Yes, you are."
Me: "Jessica is tearing us apart, Joey."
Joey: "I know."
Me: "I'm sorry I was acting jealous. I'm just so terrified of losing you. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Joey started tearing up.

Joey: "You're the best thing that's happened to me, too."

We stayed in each others embrace. After a minute, Joey lifted my head with his hand, wiped away my tears, and kissed me.

Joey: "I'm tired of arguing, Caroline."
Me: "I am too."
Joey: "I just want to be happy and with you."
Me: "Same."

He gave me a kiss on the cheek before holding my hand. We walked back to my car. We held hands the whole time I drove back to my apartment. When we got to my apartment, we went into my living room and sat down on the couch. We cuddled for a while.

Me: "I love you."
Joey: "And I love you."
Me: "Do you still want to film a video?"
Joey: "Sure."

We went to the third floor of my apartment. My camera and lights were set up from before.

Joey: "So what kind of video are we filming?"
Me: "Q&A."

-filming-

Me: "Oh hey, I didn't see you there. Today I have Joey with me, but you probably already noticed him. I have my laptop right here and were going to answer some of your questions. Joey are you ready?"
Joey: "Girl, I was born ready."
Me: "Good."

I began scrolling down Twitter looking for questions.

Question 1- What is your favorite time
of the day?

Joey: "Definitely nighttime."
Me: "Same. And personally, I've always been more of a night person."

Question 2- Cats or dogs?

Me: "Cats."
Joey: "Same. But I like some dogs more than cats."
Me: "Which ones?"
Joey: "Pomskies. And Hitch."

Question 3- Favorite Marina and the Diamonds song?

Joey: "I really like 'Lonely Hearts Club'."
Me: "I like 'Are You Satisfied?'"
Joey: "All her songs are perfect though."

Question 4- What faction would you choose?

Joey: "Dauntless."
Me: "I would want to be in Dauntless, but I feel like I would completely fail initiation. So I guess I would pick Amity."
Joey: "Amity would be my second choice."

Question 5- What did you want to be when you were little?

Joey: "I wanted to be an astronaut. Or a carpenter like my dad."
Me: "I wanted to be a ballerina. And I feel like I could have been one if I kept dancing."
Joey: "Do you ever wish you still danced?"
Me: "Of course I have times where I wish I did. But I'm happy with being where I am now."

Me: "Alright, well that's it for this video.
Joey: "If you liked it then don't forget to give it a thumbs up.

Joey and I: (doing peace signs) "Byeeeeeee!"

Joey: "Well hello there everyone! As you can see I'm here with the lovely Caroline."
Me: "Hi!"
Joey: "And we are going to answer some questions. We filmed the first part of our Q&A for Caroline's channel, so go over there after this video is finished."

Question 6- Would you rather freeze to death or burn to death?

Joey: "I would rather freeze to death because I feel like after a while my body would go numb and I wouldn't feel it."
Me: "True. If you burn to death then you would feel everything and I wouldn't want that."

Question 7- Why do you guys like minecraft so much?

Me: "If you've ever played then you know how addicting it can get and it's super fun."
Joey: "It's definitely one of those games where I just wanna keep playing and never stop."
Me: "Definitely."

Question 8- Have you ever cried over someone you liked?

Joey: "Yep. I'm a sensitive person and it's easy for me to cry over people and things."
Me: "Same with me. I'm constantly afraid of losing people I'm in love with or really close to. And when I lose them I get really upset and start to panic."

Question 9- What do you guys usually eat for breakfast?

Joey: "Well you must be new. Just kidding. But for real though. I usually make us egg sandwiches and smoothies."
Me: "They taste really good."
Joey: "Why thank you, girly
girl."

Question 10- Tell an embarrassing story.

Joey: *insert story here* [I couldn't think of one he's talked about]
Me: "Well it's not as embarrassing as mine. So it was Black Friday and I was in line at the mall waiting to get into Macy's or whatever store it was and I felt some moisture between my thighs if you know what I mean. Turns out I bled through my tampon and I ruined my pants."
Joey: "Ew! That's so nasty!"
Me: "And I had been waiting in line for a couple of hours so I didn't want to leave my spot. But when I finally made it into the store, I bought a pair of pants to change into."
Joey: "What did you do with the other pants?"
Me: "I threw them out! I'm not gonna carry around smelly-period blood-soiled pants while I go Black Friday shopping!"

Joey starting laughing.

Me: "I totally felt like everyone in the store could see my blood stain and I felt like they were all looking at me. It was humiliating. I'm laughing now, but I wanted to crawl into a hole at the time."
Joey: "Aw. Well that's all the questions we have for today. Let us know if you want us to do more Q&A videos together. Don't forget to watch part 1 of the video on Caroline's channel. And remember, may the odds be ever in your favor! Goodbye!"


-after filming-

After Joey did his outro, he turned off the camera.

Joey: "That story was gross but hilarious."
Me: "Well, I'm glad that at least one person got some joy out of my misery."
Joey: (laughing) "I love how all the bad things happen to you."
Me: "Must be nice to have good luck."
Joey: "I guess you could say the odds are always in my favor."
Me: "I guess I could."

I gave him a quick kiss. For the rest of the night, we worked on editing the videos so we would have them done for Thursday. When we finished it was around 8 PM. Since we didn't eat dinner yet and it was kind of late, we made sandwiches. Tomorrow is Monday, which means that Joey has to film Storytellers.

Joey: "Tomorrow is a night shoot and I'm not sure when it will end."
Me: "So will we not see each other tomorrow?"
Joey: "We might, but I'll probably get home when you're asleep."
Me: "Ok. So is this 'goodbye'?"
Joey: "It's more of a 'see you soon'."

He leaned in and gave me a long kiss.

Joey: "I love you, Caroline."
Me: "I love you too, Joey."
Joey: "I'll see you sometime this week, ok?"
Me: "Ok."

Yay they made up! As interesting as it is to have them be pissed at each other, it's easier to write when they are happy and don't want to yell at each other. And I'm annoyed with writing about Sam so I decided to send his ass back to Denver. Sorry not sorry.

Oh btw I looked back at some of his Ask Joey videos and took some questions from there so some of his answers are real.

And incase you're wondering, yes the period thing did actually happen to me. But I was at the checkout line at Kohls. Needless to say, it was nasty.
