The kiss had been burning in Mikasa's mind ever since the party, nearly two months.
Whether or not Annie could remember it remained unknown to Mikasa.
Luckily, today she had something to take her mind off of it.
Today would be the day that she would go back to Eren's place for Christmas.
Her feelings for Eren would blur out Annie's kiss for now.
When she arrived at the Jaeger household on Christmas Eve, Eren, Grisha and Carla stood in the lightly snowed driveway, they were greeting Armin Arlert, who had just stepped out of his own car.
"Hello!" Mikasa said, once in the driveway and out of her car.
Her adoptive family and friend gave a chorused 'hello' in return.
She took in Armin and Eren's appearance after giving everyone a hug.
Eren had really let his hair grow out, it looked like it hadn't been cut since they last saw one another.
Armin looked the same as when Mikasa last saw him, blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, half moon glasses, and maybe a little taller than last time.
They gathered inside at the table.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't be here to set up decorations." She said to Carla and Grisha.
"It's not the end of the world." Grisha said waving a hand. "We had Armin and Eren help."
She looked at Armin and Eren incredulously who nodded.
"We carried the tree in." Eren said, clapping a hand on Armin's shoulder. "You shouldn't look so surprised, the days where your strength outweighed ours are over." Eren added.
"Anyways, have you started reading the Harry Potter series?" Armin asked.
"Yes," She said. "I'm a little over ninety pages into the Chamber of Secrets."
"What'd you think of the first book?" His eyes shined with curiosity.
"It held my attention much more than I expected it to." Mikasa said.
"Is that all?"
"No, I really enjoyed it, hell, I read half of it on my first night there."
"Have you made any new friends?" Carla asked.
Her hesitation to answer seemed to worry them.
"Yes, I have! Don't worry!" Mikasa said. "In fact, Sasha and Connie go to the school."
"Ah, are they dating?" Carla asked.
"As far as I know, no." Mikasa replied.
"They'd make a nice couple." Armin commented.
"I mean, I haven't seen them kiss. I always thought they saw each other as brother and sister." Mikasa shrugged.
"Any other friends?"
"My roommate and I got off on the wrong foot, but now we're on..." the kiss resurfaced to the forefront of her mind. "We're on good terms," Mikasa finished, tightly grasping the scarf. "But the others I met are pretty nice."
"Well don't keep them anonymous, we need names." Grisha said with a light smile.
"Annie Leonhardt, my roommate, Ymir, Historia Reiss, Hitch Dryese, Mina Carolina, Rico Brzenska, Sasha, Connie, Bertolt Hoover, and Reiner Braun." She counted off on her fingers.
"Annie Leonhardt?" Armin said.
"Yeah, what? Is there a problem with her?"
"She supposedly lived in a really crappy area, there were gang wars in the area, I believe she belonged to one particularly nasty one, I think they're called the Titans."
"How the hell is she in the Three Walls then? I thought it was supposed to be a really difficult college to get into?" Mikasa said.
"I don't know," Armin shook his head. "You should still be careful of her."
"She doesn't seem to bad, I mean, I have heard a lot of good things about her from her friends, some of whom are polar opposites to her." Mikasa said.
"I mean, I did hear those rumors when we were in high school, I'm not saying they still apply." Armin said.
"I understand Armin, just don't put too much faith into rumors." Mikasa replied. "Nevertheless I am grateful that you are looking out for me."
"Alright all, let's say prayer and then we can eat." Grisha said. "Thank you Lord for our meal, and allowing us to be here, together, today. We are about to celebrate your Son's birthday, Jesus Christ, the Savior. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,"
"Amen," the table chorused.
-Christmas Day-
Christmas Day had arrived. There were only ten presents, two for each person, and a stocking with candy in it.
The rest of the day would be with family watching some Christmas films.
"Mikasa," Eren said beckoned her into the kitchen.
"Give me a sec guys," Mikasa said. "I'll be back."
Carla nodded and waved her hand.
"What is it?" She asked Eren.
"Not here, there's something I need to tell you," he replied.
They made their way to his room, he gently closed the door behind him.
"Mikasa, I like you," he said.
"Y-You, you do?" Mikasa stammered.
"Yes, and I've only just realized it recently, I'm sorry for how I was acting towards you in middle school," Eren said.
He slowly approached her.
He drew his lips onto hers.
Mikasa kissed back.
-After Break-
"So how was your break?" Mikasa asked Annie.
"You're in a good mood, Ackerman, I assume you had a fun break." She paused. "My break was decent."
"Great," Mikasa paused. "Were you ever in a gang known as the Titans?"
"Where'd you hear that rumor?" Annie shot, almost loosing grip on her bags.
"My friend," Mikasa raised an eyebrow at her response.
"Well... it was true, I quit, Reiner and Bertolt left with me." Annie finally said after a minute's silence. "I assure you I am no longer involved with them. This ring is the only physical reminder of my time in the Titans." She held up her right hand, showing the ring on her index finger.
"It's an iron ring, right? Did all members have it?"
She seemed to be withdrawing into herself with each question.
"I'm only answering so many questions, Ackerman," Annie said coldly. "The only answer you get is this." She flicked her wrist and a small curved blade popped up.
"Alright," Mikasa said placing her hands on her hips. "I won't delve into your past any more."
"Good," Annie said with finality in her tone. "We may be friends, but that doesn't mean we'll be singing Kumbaya by a campfire, nor will I tell you my life story."
"I understand, Annie." The Asian sighed.
It seemed life would be back to normal for now.
