hey, look it's Luke!

"Your mom called." Taylor spoke from behind the paper he was reading.
"Oh, Taylor, hello." Brielle jumped a bit as he had spoken. She hadn't even seen him sitting at the table.
"Zac left, he said you were in the shower, when I saw it was her I figured it was okay to answer." Taylor informed his sister-in-law.
When Brielle had went to the shower Zac had been playing with the kids in the play room, she had checked and Junia and Abe were still in there playing, which left her to assume her husband was in the kitchen or the living room. Seeing Taylor, it made sense that Zac had already left for his meeting with his lawyer, leaving Taylor in charge of his children. Since their argument a few nights ago, Zac had been taken a better interest in what his children were doing, Brielle was happy to see Zac slowly getting back to his old habits where the kids were concerned.
"Thank you, mom calls are always important." Brielle gave him a small grin. "What was her news?"
"She wanted to know if she needed to come down here." Taylor replied with a shrug, sitting the paper down and folding his hands on the table top. "I told her we were taking care of you."
"Did she bite or is she on the next flight out?" Brielle questioned with a raised brow.
Taylor grinned. "No, she took it. You know your mother trusts me."
It was true. Kathy Simmons held the Hanson family in very high regard, especially their third born son. The first time she had met Zac, she walked away telling her daughter that he was going to be the man she one day married. Zac and his mother-in-law got along well, Kathy had divorced Brielle's father when Brielle was around Shepherd's age, Zac would say she understood him and his situation. Never would Kathy say anything against her son-in-law, Brielle had spoke with her a few weeks ago, telling her mother how Zac had almost completely shut her out, without hesitation Kathy had launched into defense mode.
It was upsetting, she admitted that, but Zac had to have his time to work out what was going on. Nobody could push him, if he needed to shut out his wife for a bit, then that is what he needed to do. As long as he wasn't straying from his marriage or treating Brielle and the children unfairly in any other way, she felt it was fair.
Her main concern was always for the children, Kathy treated Zac's children like her own grandchildren; she would treat the rest of his family no different than she treated any member of her own. Jenna would joke and say she treated them better than her own family most of the time.
"She asked how everything was going, she knew Jenna was here. I think that is why she probably felt the need to check in." Taylor continued.
Brielle nodded. If her mother heard that Jenna was staying with her daughter for more than a few days, then she'd assume things were bad and would naturally want to help.
Taylor went on to tell Brielle the other news her mother had given him, chatting away with the younger man like he was her own son. Naturally, Kathy had asked about Taylor's own family, his parents, and siblings. He told her how everybody had been doing with their respective lives, in return asking Kathy about her own life and how things had been going. She had recently opened a small business, catering, which was doing better than ever imagined. Taylor loved hearing her enthusiasm, over everything they discussed.
She was a kind lady. She worked hard, took nothing as a hand out, and Taylor could see that in Brielle.
"She did ask if there was any news on grandbabies." Taylor chuckled lightly. It was a motherly thing to ask.
