Standing in Miss Peregrine's loop was like letting a bird who grew up in captivity out of its cage for the first time. Back in our old loop, we were never allowed to go anywhere outside of the gardens, and we were limited to the games that we could play because we didn't want the weird neighbors to come knocking at our doors when we're too loud.

But here, her wards were allowed to run free,  down to the beach or out to the town on special occasions. We stood on the front porch as we watched the children play with a soccer ball, and they cheered loudly when a boy kicked it into the goal.

"Children, stop with your nonsense and get inside. We have guests. Also, it's your turn to help with dinner, Hugh." I didn't notice that Miss Peregrine had left our side until she was standing in front of the boy, speaking to all of his friends.

The boy, I think his name was Hugh, nodded. When he looked over in our direction he grinned wildly. A girl with wild hair grabbed his hand and they ran towards the side door, the other kids following them.

Miss Peregrine waved us inside, and I grabbed Ezra's hand as we walked inside our soon to be home. Percy was jumping up and down happily, patting my other hand. "Will I get to play soccer here, sissy?" I nodded, smiling at him. "Yes yes yes yes yes!" He jumped up and down more, clearly excited.

Nico, on the other hand, was tucked inside one if Ezra's wings, cowering behind it. I stopped walking and I went over to him and gently pulled back Ezra's wing to reveal his face.

"What's wrong, buddy?" I asked. "What if they don't like me? Everyone will think I'm scary and run away!" The poor boy looked like he was about to burst into tears.

"Hey look, buddy," Ezra lea ed down and it his hands on his shoulder. "No body's gonna run away, bud. They'll love you, you just gotta get to know them." Nico nodded slowly, but he pulled the wing back in front of his face.

"Keep walking, please!" The boy's muffled voice said, and Percy giggled. I smiled and grabbed Ezra's hand once again. We walked to Miss Peregrine, who held a door open to a room filled with peculiars. A new life.
