"Stop Lily Beth!"Joana yells through laughs. "Why are you throwing fries at me?!?"
"What? I'm not doing anything," I say in an innocent voice. "They're throwing themselves at you because you said they tasted bad!"
He shakes his head at me, "I'm sorry, fries." He looks at the almost- empty basket of fries. Between the fries "throwing themselves at Joana" and my addiction to fries,they ran out quickly. The waitress brings the check, I grab it, put my debit card in it, and hand it to the waitress. During the transaction, Joana grabs it and puts his card inside of it, taking mine out.
"What?!? No! I'm paying." I say, I grab my card and the check. Joana shakes his head and grabs it back. "Nope! Mister, I. Am. Paying!"
"I beg to differ, LB. I. Am. Paying." He says, he puts his check in, and the waitress takes it and goes away before I can grab it.
"Grrrrrr. I should've payed!"
"No, you shouldn't have when I got a full meal and all you got was fries."
I shoot a glare at him. Joana has always been good at winning fights.
The waitress comes back and we stand up and walk out of the restaurant.
''Hey, Lily Beth, '' Joana says as we hop into the car.
''Yeah?'' I reply.
''I had fun this afternoon.''
''I did too. It was like old times, except we aren't 5 and joking about random stuff.''
''Yeah, ''Joana laughs.
Joana drives back to the campus and turns towards my dorm. He pulls into a parking spot and we both get out of the car.
''You don't have to take me to the door...'' I say. What are you talking about? I think, Of course you want him to take you to the door!
'' Nonsense, there's too many murderers and rapists out there for me to leave you stranded. Who knows who could grab you in those 40 feet?'' He protests.
''You're right, I guess. Vanderbilt University is full of murderers and rapists, a girl like me isn't safe on her own. '' I laugh. Joana nods his head and wraps his arm around me. For some reason, I get tingles in the place he touched me. Its like a damn cliché romance novel. I look into his eyes, if its gonna be cliché I guess I'll roll with it. Oh, man I'm doing what I make fun of other girls for doing, liking a guy after one day. But, this is different. I've known Joana since I was 5.
''Here ya go, m'lady.'' Joana snaps me out of thought as he removes his arm from my shoulders.The tingles are still where he touched me. Why didn't those damn tingles go away with his arm? I think.
''Thank you kind sir,'' I curtsy, trying to act natural.
''Will I see you tomorrow? Or will I have to wait?'' Joana asks.
''It depends,'' I say.
''Well I hope its tomorrow,'' He leans down and plants a small kiss on my cheek. ''Bye, Lily Beth; my best friend.'' I smile, not sure whether its from the kiss or his remembrance of our old goodbyes, maybe both.
''See ya later, Joana; my best friend forever,'' I wave, emphasizing on the ''forever'' just like 5 year old me did. Joana called me his best friend, but I always told him we were best friends forever. Joana knew his situation, and I did too, but I always felt my parents would adopt Joana, Joana felt the opposite.
He walks off and I open the door to my dorm, Kansas sits on her bed looking at her phone.
''Hey,'' she says.
''Hey.''
''How was your date?''
''It wasn't a date.''
''Pretty sure it was.''
''Joana's my best friend.''
''Then why couldn't you come up with a title for him?''
''For reasons I don't wish to share with a complete stranger,'' I smirk as I use Kansas's own words to get back at her. She raises an eyebrow and goes back to looking at her phone.

Sorry this took so long to update guys! I've been busy!I'm going to edit this soon and put in italics and stuff cause I'm on my dad's computer and for some reason it won't let me put stuff like that :(. I figured out how to put a cast! I know the cast is weird, it was hard finding people with their appearances so I got close enough :)
