"You could've been killed!"
"But I wasn't,"
"Yeah, but you could've been! You were lucky nothing worse happened..." Dylan complained as he paced the room
We were now back from the hospital and I was laid on the couch, clutching my side. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about, I just had a cracked rib so I had to take it easy for a couple of days.
"What's worse than being killed?" I asked, frowning.
"Dementor's kiss?" Jay joked.
Dylan threw a cushion at him and scowled.
"Dude, chill out! She looks fine to me," Aaron said, picking up my feet, sitting where they had been and then placing my feet on his lap. "And judging by the story, it kind of sounds like her fault anyway..."
"Hey!"
"Oh come on Bea! It's so obvious that you didn't check for traffic properly!" Aaron stated and I frowned at him, unimpressed.
"I know! And that's what I said to the guy but - "
"Woah, woah, woah! Guy? What guy?" Dylan froze and stared at me.
"The guy that I had to break for... did I - did I not mention him?"
"No! You said nothing about a guy! You told us that you had to slam your brakes on for someone but you never said you talked to someone! How could you not tell us this vital piece of information?!" Dylan started to raise his voice. Overprotective brothers...sheesh!
I sighed. I hated explaining things.
"I didn't tell you about talking to the guy because it was only a minor detail - "
"Minor?! He could've killed you!" Dylan said.
"Dylan, just calm it, bro," Jay put out a hand which gestured for calm. "Bea is fine. She wasn't injured and/or raped. Nothing to worry about!"
"Shutup!!" Dylan stared daggers at Jay and then turned to me. "Who was this guy? Did he try to hurt you? What happened?"
"No, he didn't try to hurt me, he helped me! After he saw me slam my brakes on, he came and helped me out the car and up to the apartment, end of story!" God, what was wrong with Dylan today?! He's never usually this protective of me! Did someone put paranoia pills in his coffee this morning?
"Oh, so crazy drivers do that kind of thing now, do they? They just go up to young, innocent women and 'help' them, do they?" Dylan replied sarcastically. "OK Bea, whatever you say! Answer me this though, did you not just think he might've been helping you out just to get in your pants?!"
"Dylan!" I gasped, outraged.
"It's true though, right? Men don't go and just 'help' out young women because they want to!" he cried.
"It's true, we don't..." Jay chipped in but he was ignored.
"Will you just shutup for one goddamn minute?!" I shouted. Dylan froze and looked at me blankly. "If you must know who the guy was, it was Jordan Henderson who came to my aid! And you weren't there so you don't know what happened! Stop jumping to your own conclusions until you know the full facts on the matter! In case you hadn't noticed, I can look after myself most of the time and I could've kicked ass if I wanted to! I'd do it you right now if the doctor hadn't told me to rest!"
Silence followed my retort. Dylan sat down on the couch and stared at the floor.
"Jordan Henderson, really?" Jay asked after about a minute of silence.
"Yes. And he was very helpful for your information," I said, aiming my anger at Dylan.
"I'm sorry, Bea. I should've known all the facts before I had a go at you," Dylan looked up at me apologetically.
"It's fine, Dylan. I accept your apology. But you don't have to protect me all the time, I can look after myself, I've been doing it ever since I came to this city," I gave my little brother a small smile.
Dylan smiled back at me and gave a nervous laugh. "I'll go and get you a drink with some aspirin,"
He got up and walked to the kitchen. Aaron let out a chuckle.
"You've actually got him running errands for you. Well done!"
"Yeah, wish I could say the same about you two," I shook my head and Aaron and Jay both laughed.
***
"How could you stay calm in that situation?! It's Jordan Henderson! With his arm around your waist! I mean, I admire you for your control but...it's Jordan Henderson!" Lexa, my best friend, sounded completeley starstruck yet excited as I told her the story of this morning's events. We were in the living room eating popcorn and watching Dreamgirls. The guys were currently out with their friends in the city centre probably getting wasted...
"Lex, I was literally dying - "
"Yeah, right! Shutup!" Lexa rolled her eyes.
"OK, I'm exaggerating, but I was in a lot of pain!" I argued.
"But...it's Jordan Henderson! He's the hottest Mackem I know!" Lexa stated.
"How many Mackems do you know?" I asked, giggling.
"Not enough evidently; they're hot people!"
I laughed harder but then suddenly stopped and I clenched my side. I could feel the pain still throbbing in my left rib.
"He's a bastard though...," Lexa shook her head and she looked at me sympathetically.
"What? Have you gone bipolar or something? You were just calling him hot a minute ago!" I complained, trying not to laugh at her change of opinion.
"Yeah, I know, but look what he did to you! If I were you, I'd kick his ass! He could've killed you!" she told me looking as serious as she could. I rolled my eyes.
"You sound like Dylan!" I complained.
"I'm not suprised! Who drives that bloody fast down a neighbourhood street?! I've seen outlawed Mexican drug cartels drive slower than that!" said Lexa and I couldn't help but giggle.
Absurd though she was, the girl made me smile a lot. I'd made friends with Lexa back in primary school and when I had decided to come up to join Liverpool John Moores University, she dropped out of Brunel University in West London and had come and joined myself and the boys in Liverpool. Apparently she dropped out because she 'got bored easily' ... which sounds just about right! She currently lives with her aunt in Kirkby, so I don't necessarily see her everyday, but she's there for me.
"No, but seriously, Lexa, don't get me started on Dylan! He was starting to sound like mum and dad combined! And you know how that is!"
Lexa cringed and I grimced. This is why she was my best friend; the girl knew me so well!
For the rest of the night myself and Lexa watched Dreamgirls; ate popcorn; laughed about Dylan, Jay and Aaron; and talked about how hot Jordan Henderson was.
Speaking of the Liverpool midfielder, I hadn't really got the chance to make anything out of what had happened this morning. It was all very... well, weird, to put it plainly. At the time I didn't make too much of it because I was in unbearable pain. I mean, of course I knew it was him! You'd have to be staggeringly stupid not to know! But because of the pain in my rib, I think the situation and what had happened had only just hit me! I was shocked to say the least! Lexa was right, I had the control but he did have his hands around my waist and now, having had time to ponder over it, I feel really... how can I put this? Astonished, bewildered, dumbfounded, flabbergasted!! I feel stunned and fuzzy, let's just say that!
