So, I'm browsing Wattpad, as I often do, and I come across a book which contains a collection of scary/ weird stories, whatever. I read one of the chapters, and it's basically a post someone put on Reddit and the author of the book put it on there.
Anyways, it's that person's account of a story their grandmother told them. I read it, and it is about how the grandmother, as a young girl, wasn't very skinny, but then moved and her diet was so meager that she lost so much weight she couldn't count.
Something like that. Anyways, the last sentence says (something along the lines of) "And then, when I finally escaped Auschwitz, I was able to regain weight and live a normal life."
I realize what this means instantly, and I search through the comments to see what everyone else thought about it. Once I do, I'm just flabbergasted that no one truly understands what the story is saying.
If you, dear reader, don't understand, then lemme clarify real quick. Basically, the grandmother is a Jew and lived through WWII. She, because of her heritage, was taken to Auschwitz, one of the worst concentration camps of the time. Because of the diet the Nazis made her and everyone else have, she lost all of that weight, to a near death point.
I was astonished at how little people know about this awful place, and especially the war itself. Me, being part Jewish, have to know. I have to understand the hardships of my people, or else...my heritage means nothing.
This chapter was just a bit darker than normal, but OH WELL. Cya next time!
