Chapter 5

"Scarlet, phone for you." Ms Brenda said.

I walked over to the phone and put it to my ear. It had been two days since my interview with the famous Chanel, and I hadn't gotten a call. I had begun to think that I didn't get the job.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hello, this is Chanel. Is this Scarlet?" Chanel asked.

"Yes, speaking." I replied.

"Well, I wanted to call and tell you that if you want the job as the nanny, you can have it! Your interview was exquisite, and you worked very well with Lily."she said. "I was very impressed."

"Well thank you." I said a little suprised. No one ever said that I had been good with children before. "I will take it if, Conner can come with me and live there."

"Well, I don't see why that wouldn't be a problem!!! When can you start?" she asked.

"Now, if you like."

"Excellent! Just come on over!" she said, and hung up.

"Come on Conner! I got the job!" I said. I was so giddy with happiness. I may finally get to give Conner a real life!

"Well congratulations! I knew you'd get the job sweetheart!" Ms Brenda said.

"Thank you so much for all your kindness Ms Brenda! Please come to visit sometime!!" I said.

"You know I will. Now get a move on!" she said, and pushed me and my brother out the door.

We rushed to our tent, and packed all of our clothes into the old trunk that kept the back end of the tent from flapping away. When we finished, we looked back at the old tent, and said our wordless goodbyes. Saying goodbye to our ugly past, and hello to our bright, shining future.

We walked down the road and turned on Willow lane. the first house on the right, where a marble mansion that belonged to Chanel stood. Seeming to watch our every move, we walked up to the door and paused. Conner looked up at me, took my hand, and knocked on the door.
