"Hello! Chanel, are you here?!"
I started screaming down the hall. As I walked down the stairs, Tasha looked at me with a hard glare.
"Could you maybe stop screaming? This isn't a damn zoo."
"I'm sorry," I said. "I'm looking for Chanel, have you seen her by any chance?"
" You missed her. She had to go speak with her Director about her role in 'Whispy Lullabys'." she said. (Note the sarcasm. )
"Oh.... Well have you seen Dallas? I need to talk to him."
All of a sudden her stare turned from icy, to a look of complete hatred. I suddenly realized what her problem was. Maybe it wasn't me, but maybe it was Dallas. Maybe there was something going on between the two of them, and she felt threatened. All of these thoughts ran through my mind before I said, "I have a question about a rat problem."
Her facial expressions relaxed, and she smiled. "Oh, well, you can find him in the kitchen." She walked off, talking silently to herself. Something was definitely going on. But I didn't have time to find out what it was, because I needed to talk to someone about the whole 'I have a dead sister' issue. I galloped down the stairs to the kitchen, where I found Mary with flour all over her apron and nose.
"Hello dear! What can I help you with? A snack, maybe a drink?" she asked.
"No thank you. I was just looking for Dallas, I have a question.
"Well, he's out in the garden helping Harold, and they don't really like being disturbed. I can help with a question though, if you'd like. "
I really didn't want to trouble Mary with this whole thing, but she seemed so welcoming and warm, I figured it was safe.
"Well, I had a question about Lily," I hesitated. How could I say this lightly? "Um, I had a question about Lily's dead sister, Annabell. "
"Oh. Well, I can't help you." she said. She turned around and began kneading her bread, probably a bit harsher than needed. When she realized I wasn't gone yet, she turned around and said, " There is nothing I can help you with, so leave."
I quickly walked out of the kitchen, afraid I might make Mary even more angry. As I walked back up the stairs, I couldn't help but wonder what might have happened to Lily's sister... I knew it was none of my nevermind, but still. I've always been curious, so if I couldn't get answers from anyone here, then I would have to get them myself.

"Dinner is ready! "
I woke with a start. I had dozed off, and began to dream a terrible dream. One that involved Lily's sister. I found out she had had a musical background, and that she was worldwide, one of the most famous people on earth. But on one of her concerts in Downford, Mississippi, she was shot to death on stage. It was a horrific nightmare. Even though I knew it was a dream, it still felt real...
As I walked down the stairs, I saw Conner and Lily playing on the entrance rug.
"You guys! Didn't you here dinner was ready?"
"Yes, but we wanted to finish our game." Conner said.
"Ya, and besides, mommy isn't going to be home tonight. Harold told me so." Lily chimed.
It must be hard to have such wonderful things, and no family member to really share it with. I think back to when Conner was a baby, and I would take him out for a walk everyday. We had a lark that we used to go to, all the way up until he was two. But, they built a skyscraper and some parking spots. That was our wonderful thing. The thing that him and I shared, even if he doesn't remember.
"DINNER TIME!!!"
"Alright guys come on. Ken and Barbie will be here when you get back, I promise."
I walked behind them to the dining room, where a beautiful mahogany table, and at least 12 chairs sat waiting for me. A huge crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, and a large assortment of dishes were on the table. As we took our seats, a couple of maids I had never seen before came and began to pour wine. (Juice for the kiddos of course.)
I stared in awe, looking at everything. Before I even could say anything, someone's hands covered my eyes. I was shocked, but I soon realized it was only Dallas, and he took his seat beside me. I looked over to see Tasha, giving me a hard glare, then looking away after she saw me starring back. Oh Lord. This dinner was going to be longer than expected...
