"What?" I asked. I looked at her face, and watched as a single tear rolled down her rosy cheek. Her eyes had turned a crystal blue, and she couldn't look away from the bed.
"This was my sisters room." she said. She gingerly walked in and sat down on the bed. She rubbed her hand over the soft white bedspread. "Her name was Annabel. She died a year ago. She was my best friend." she just managed to say 'friend' before she broke into racking sobs. I rushed over, and put both arms around her, trying my best to sooth her.
"Do.... Do you know how? How she, you know, died?" I asked, not sure if I should be talking about this to her or Chanel.
"She was at her friends house. They were partying. She was supposed to be the driver. But someone who had some beer grabbed the wheel and sent then over the bridge. All four of them drowned." she said. "Mommy said that we aren't supposed to talk about it."
I thought of Chanel, how happy and spunky she always was. She hadn't showed any signs of sadness. Maybe I'll talk to her about it later. I looked at Lily, trying to imagine the pain she must be going through. A sudden pang of sadness hit me hard in the gut.
"Please mommy, don't leave me. I can't take care of him by myself!"
"You said yourself you could take care if yourself far better than us 'Druggies.' So, here you go. Ill let you see how hard it is." my father said.
"Please Joe, this is going to far." my mother said, tears in her eyes.
"This is what she wanted, so this is what she gets!!" my father pulled her away, leaving us on the curb.
"Scarlet?" I looked up. Conner and Lily were looking at me with big eyes. I touched my hand to my face, and realized I was crying. "I'm fine. You guys stay here, I'll be right back." I said, and left the room.
