"Welcome back!!" Chanel said.
"Oh, thank you." I said. I couldn't quite comprehend how someone of Chanel's abilities, could be so kind and genuine.
"Well, Conner, Lily is in her room. Scarlet, let's go to the kitchen and I can introduce you to everyone."
"Excuse me, Mrs. Chanel." Conner said. "Where is Lily's room?"
"Oh, silly me. It's up the stairs, down the hall, and it's the first door on the left." Chanel said.
"Oh. Well, ok." Conner said, and hurried up the stairs.
"He is just so polite!" Chanel said. I smiled in reply, and followed her down the hall closest to the stairs. She passed the door that Lily came out of when Conner and I first came here, and into an arched passage way leading to the kitchen.
"Scarlet, this is Tasha, Mary, Harold, and Dallas." Chanel said.
I was looking them all over, taking in every aspect of their faces. I started with Tasha. She was at least 23. She had honey blonde hair, round face, and blue green almond shaped eyes. She had really rosy cheeks. She was beautiful. Mary, an old woman, with long greyish hair turning white, had wrinkles all over her face, and chocolate brown eyes. Harold looked 50, with a massive bald spot on the back of his head. His black hair was greying aswell, but not quite as extreme. He had thick glasses, and was very skinny. Then, there was Dallas. He was extremely handsome, with light blonde hair, and beautiful blue grey eyes. He was tall and muscular, and obviously did a lot of the outside work. I liked him. I liked him a lot.
"Scarlet? Are you ok?" Chanel asked.
I snapped back to reality, realizing I had been staring at Dallas, and he was staring right back. I suddenly became very self-conscious, and blushed.
"Yes, I... I'm fine" I said a bit louder than I had intened. I looked at Chanel, trying to see if she would change the subject. Instead of her speaking, it was Dallas who spoke.
"Have you been shown to your room yet?" he asked. I looked at him blankly, not knowing what to say.
"No, not yet." I managed to say.
"Well, why don't I show you?" He asked. "Where is her room again, Chanel?"
"Up stairs, and down the hall on the right. The very last door on the right. Oh, and Conner's is the hall on the left..."
"Ok, thank you!" Dallas said, and lead me out of the kitchen.
"Chanel sure does like to talk." he said. "Is this your only bag?"
"Yeah. We don't have much." I replied.
"So what's your story anyway?" he asked as he started up the stairs. I followed. "My parents left me when I was 12 with my brother Conner, when he was only a newborn. I had to raise him on my own, and we barley scrapped by. So when I got this job, it was really a miracle." I said.
"Wow. That would be hard. Why didn't you go to an orphanage?" he asked.
"I tried. The stupid nun's wouldn't take us in."
"Harsh." he said. We got to the end of the hallway, and he opened the door. "Welcome home."
I was immediately awed. The far wall had double-doors, leading out to a balcony, over looking the garden. A four poster bed was on the left wall, and a little desk on the right. Beside the bed on the wall, was a door to a walk in closet, and on the other side, the adjoining bathroom. The walls were painted a warm yellow, and had white carpets. It was perfect.
"Wow." I said, completely astonished that this was mine.
"I'll let you settle in then." Dallas said and closed the door behind him.
Conner would love this... CONNER! I flew down the other hallway, and burst into Lily's room.
"Conner! Come see my room!" I said.
"Ok!" he said, grabbing Lily's hand and pulling her out of the room. I lead them down the hall and into my room.
"WOW!" Conner said, spinning around in a circle. "A balcony!"
"Yep." I said proudly, looking around. Then I saw Lily. She stood outside the door, looking sad. Very sad.
"What's wrong Lily?" I asked.
"Nothing really." she said. "It's just that... Well... This was my sisters room."
