'Hey good luck today with your first day today'. Jackson texted me at three in the morning.
'Thanks for hitting the home run for me'.
'I hit both for you my beautiful friend'.
'Am I only a friend'.
'I don't want to be'.
'Me either'.
'I don't have a game tonight'.
'So...'
'I'll pick you up at 6 at the school'. 'What school are you at'.
'The one that is closest to your favorite baseball park'.
'I'll see you then can't wait'.
When six came I was in my classroom with the other two math teachers talking about how the day went for us. Then all of a sudden the door opened and Jackson Myls walked into room. I smiled at the two other ladies before I said, "I must go, I have a date."
"What's his name?" Mrs. Runaw quickly asked me before I left.
"Jackson Myls, I got to go. I don't know where he is taking me." I quickly turned around with my bag on my shoulder, and I followed Jackson out of the school.
"Where are we going tonight?" I asked him as we walked up to his extremely nice car.
Jackson gave me a look like I was in for a fun ride. He didn't say anything and just got into the car laughing. Most people might think this would be scary, but I know that I can trust the guy.
When the car pulled to a stop we were outside an apartment building. "I thought that we would have a dinner at my place. I'm not a big person on eating out. I love home cooked meals."
"I never had that luxury since my dad worked a lot and I never have time to cook. Are you any good?" I couldn't help but asking that question. I didn't want to eat something putrid.
He smirked at me, "You are my taste tester. I hope that you enjoy what I have ready for you." I remember feeling scared as the two of us road up on the elevator to his apartment.
As the two of us walked into the moderately expensive apartment, I was blown away at the sight that I saw in front of my eyes. "I know, I have a lot of expensive things here, but I don't try to live such an expensive life. I just got thrown into one."
"Someone threw you a fast ball that you... hit to the... stands. I really hope that I am using the right references." I felt very embarrassed not know the terminology.
"Don't worry, it was close enough. So you saw those homeruns I hit for you last night?" He asked me while he guided me into his large kitchen.
"Yeah, I say. What would you say if I told you that, that was the first baseball game I ever watched on T.V. or in real life?" I realized at this moment that I give him so many reason to hate me, but he never turned it into a negative.
He looked at me and laughed. I sat on one of the barstools as Jackson said, "Wow, that was me too since I came from a very poor family, but I have made up for it with all the games I have played over the years. But I still haven't been to a game that I wasn't a part of one the teams. What do you think of having grilled cheese tonight?"
"Sure," I was laughing also when he asked me that question. I haven't laughed this much in my whole life, and only knowing this guy for about twenty-four hours, I'm laughing for my whole lifetime, that was nothing but being a grown up.
Within no time the two of us was eating from a tall stack of grilled cheese and having great conversations about everything and anything.
