The morning sun had kissed her awake. Slivers of light peeped through the drawn blinds, casting thin golden stripes across her angelic face. She opened her eyes and slowly, drowsily and lopped sidedly she smiled.
She fell asleep some how last night and her journal is still out. Putting it back under her pillow, she looks over the ledge and see's that Hailey was sleeping on her bed. She quietly gets out and tip toes out of the Cabin with a bag of her things and heads to the bath house. Getting in she heads to a shower.
"Finally a good shower," I hear a girl say and I freeze, I look through the side of the door and see that Ginger has come in by herself.
Suddenly a phone rings and see her answer it, "Hello," Ginger pauses, "Oh hello Mr. Halloween. Yes, everything is great, everyone still loves me," what the heck? "Yeah, so you have already heard about the new girl. Yes, those are the rumors, I don't have any more to tell you other then the obvious. You know, how everyone is now thinking that she should replace me," my mouth drops. "Yeah I know, and she has only been here two days. Your right, I must keep going. It must be me," she then ends the conversation.
I don't dare move, I don't even breathe, I'm frozen to the spot I was standing in the showers. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest...duh-duhn, duh-duhn. I find the need to control my breathing. The hairs on my arms stand to attention, as a militia of chills march down my spine, along side the beads of water. I try going back to washing my hair but, I can't help but think about it. Mr. Halloween was obviously the Minister of Halloween, but why was he calling her and what was they meaning of what she said. At the moment she hears Ginger step into an adjoining shower, she stops hers, gets dried of, picks up her clothes, puts them on in a stall, and does not bother to do her makeup or dry her hair. She just puts it in a pony tail and runs out as quietly as she could. once out of the bath house she ran as fast as she could back to the cabin.
"Hailey, Hailey, Hailey!" I yell at her, shaking her awake.
"What?" she says annoyed.
"You won't believe what I heard Ginger say at the bath house," I explain.
"You were at the Bath house with Ginger?" Hailey questions.
"No. I was there first, I just eased drooped on her conversation she was having with this Mr. Halloween on her phone," I add.
Hailey's eyes bulged, she got straight out of bed and put her hand over my mouth, "Are you Crazy! Someone else may hear you!" she whispers and I give her a look. She sighs, " The Minister of Halloween. Has always been a big mystery to anyone. He has only every shown his face once a year on Halloween or even hears from him. The only other thing we know is that he possess a number of strange abilities that only a few have even the knowledge of what they actually are. And there is a rumor that if you get in his way; Bang! You disappear, never to be seen again. And you say you heard thy Minister of Halloween having a phone conversation with Ginger?".
"Yes. The conversation started with 'Oh hello Mr. Halloween. Yes, everything is great', those were Ginger's persist words. And by the way, that rumor seems far fetched," I say as clear as possible.
"Believe what you want," she states and goes to get ready. I then go put my make up on.
I have always called my make up, my war paint. I believe that Make up is a women's War paint that she put's on every day. When you put it on you are strong and beautiful; and in that, that's why I know that I would not cry. Because if I were to cry, my make up will run and I would look pathetic. It helps me stay strong when I am scared. And I will be ready to face Ginger and who ever this Minister of Halloween guy is.
" let's go to breakfast,. I need to get my mind of the last subject" says Hailey and we walk towards the Cafeteria. "Hey guys," she waves to Henry and Micheal who were already there. "You guys are up early,".
"Yep, we went for a morning jog today," says Henry, drinking his glass of orange juice.
"Well good for guys then," Hailey adds, taking one of his tater tots.
"Hey!" Henry yells, trying to slap her hand but he misses.
"Too slow. Slow poke," she laughs, flaunting it as she puts it in her mouth. "Plus those things are really greasy. You know, you are just gaining back the calories,".
"I don't care. I like them," Henry pouts at her.
"Such a child," she whispers under her her breath.
I laugh at the comments. I could see how they are childhood friends, just from the way they teased each other. I wish I had that but, nope. I finish my breakfast and stand up, "I'll see you after my baking class Hailey," I say.
"Yep. Good luck," she adds and I nod, standing up, i take my tray to were it belongs and I head to the class. when I got there, I was the first one there so I got ready and went to sit behind the counter. She did not have have to wait long until Ginger and her girls come in.
"Hey Amelia, you are already here. Did we make you wait long?" Ginger asks me with a smile.
"No, I had just gotten here five minutes ago," I answered her, along with a smile back.
"well that is good then," she adds and they all get ready and take their own places behind th counter. Fifteen minutes later, Mrs. Claus walks in.
"Good Morning girls," she says.
"Good morning Mrs. Claus," we all say.
"Today you girls are very lucky because I have decided you girls shall make one of my absolute favorites. Your own Gingerbread Houses! design them any way you want," she includes and we all start.
I make as much gingerbread as I could and cuted it into their correct shapes. Leaving me with enough to make four gingerbread men to go with it. Putting that into the oven I start making some icing and getting out all the candy I could get my hands on. A while later, once it was done, I took them out, let them cool and started to decorate them. Layer by layer of frosting, I add the candy in multiple patterns on he plate. Not forgetting about the ginger bread men either. Then I am done and I see that Ginger was done too
" You two are done," Mrs. Claus asks and we nod. "Well they both look good so, you both passed then," she adds and I smile. "Make sure to give it to some one special," she adds and winks at me. What was that for, I thought.
I ponder, I know just the person.
