Chapter Nine
Let's go back a bit...
Hi, I'm Bri...
Sorry to stop you in the middle of the book, but you know what? I don't think I properly introduced myself. I'm Briana, Bri, call me what you want (I prefer Bri, just saying) I love filming and editing, singing, dancing, acting, I'm that girl you see on the street with a camera, and I talk to it like it's my best friend. I have long, brown hair and green hazel eyes (the exact same colour as Ben's) and I've never loved anybody before...
You're probably thinking, 'well of course she has, I just read eight whole chapters about her love life.' Well yes, yes you did, but I had never been in love before that summer. I mean, I had crushes on people before, but not like this. Nothing like this. This was all new to me, I didn't even know what was going on half the time. I just kind of played along with Ben's rules, tried getting him to like me, something any teenage girl would do.
Do you know what else every teenage girl does? Lies. Okay, maybe that word is a little too strong. What about, over exaggerates. That's the word. I over exaggerated before, and you read it. Remember when I said that Ben had told me that we were going to put our relationship on hold? Yeah he didn't say that. Not that exactly. I'll tell you the real story, and I promise this time it'll be one hundred percent true.
Ben and I had stopped talking for a while, and we kind of drifted apart, for no reason at all. I actually forgot about him for a while, and we were still dating. A few weeks had passed and he called me, you know that part, and he said "Wait so are we dating?"
"I don't know... Are we?" I asked.
"Well we should wait until summer, because I know this is making Emily and Maggie feel all bad..."
"Yeah I know." I said, understanding completely.
"So we'll wait?" He asked me.
"Yeah, we can wait. But we're still gonna stay friends, like this didn't happen, right?" I said.
"Yeah, well I have to go, talk to you tomorrow. Bye love you."
Except I know he meant 'luv' instead of 'love.' You see, by typing or texting 'luv' it just means that he wants to make you feel good, that he likes you as a friend and nothing more. And that's all he ever said to me, except the week we were dating. Another thing, I might have said that we were dating for two weeks, it was more like one. But everything else was true, I can promise you that. And I bet you want to know what happened next with Ben, right? So I'll tell you, and let me warn you; it just gets worse, and worse.
And sometimes BFF doesn't mean 'best friend forever.' Have you ever thought about it as 'bad friendships fail'? Well, I guess some friendships did fail... And I wasn't able to fix them.
