Chapter 9 – Lost dreams

It was pretty boring actually, the ride at least. I sat on one of the benches and looked at the fog under the boat. Now it was a sick purple colour, I’m sure that if I looked too long at it I would puke. But I couldn’t bring myself to look away, it was very interesting to see the fog changing colour.

In the corner of my eye I saw something sparkle, I curiously bend over the boat, trying to get a glimpse of it. Then I saw it, it was a beautiful golden watch. I frowned, not getting it, what is a watch doing there?

The boat made an unexpected turn making me fall off the railing, I closed my eyes but nothing came. I felt a hand grab my shirt and throwing me back in the boat, I opened my eyes and was met with Charon’s now black eyes, “Be careful kid, you wouldn’t like to see what’s underneath the fog. Stay inside the boat.” Charon warned me, I quickly nodded. I looked at Jack who already was looking at me with a raised eyebrow and an amused expression on his face, “What where you doing Niall?” He asked.

“I saw something, a golden watch. What is it?” I asked him, Jack visibly paled and clearly regretted asking in the first place. I moved my head to the side and looked at him, what does he know? But it wasn’t Jack who answered, it was Charon, “That was a dream from someone. A lost dream, a dream that never came true. Not all dreams come true, the ones who are lost come here, floating around forever.” He said to us, making me look around. And surely I saw more objects floating around.

Pictures, dolls, name it and you see it. A watch floated towards my head, I gave it a light push with my hand making it tumble around and float to the opposite direction. I noticed Jack looked at the objects with a sad expression, like he could see what the dreams were, the dreams that never came true.

I looked at them in another way. I also had a dream, and my dream came true. I get to live my dream, performing in front of millions of people and recording albums, and I get to do it with five boys who are like brothers to me. When I saw all those lost dreams – it were millions! – I noticed how lucky I am. I’m not only an angel – a blessed one – but I also get to live my dream, my dream came true. If it didn’t it floated around here somewhere, in the fog that led to the Underworld, forever.

My eyes fell on a picture, it was of a boy who had a microphone in his hand and was with a band on stage. That’s a dream of someone who wanted to be a singer, but it didn’t come true.

“We pass the border, in a few seconds we are officially in the Underworld,” Charon announced. I shared a glance with Jack, there is no turning back now. Before I met Jack’s green eyes I thought I would see fear or something like that, but it was more the complete opposite. In his eyes burned a fire, that gave a sparkle to his eyes. He showed me a confident smirk, he believed we could do it, he believed we could save our friends.

Jack’s determination and confident never failed to surprise me.

Jack’s fire also made my fire burn, deep inside of me. I smirked back, we can do it. We can save the lads. Suddenly and evil laugh was heard, sending shivers down my spine, a wind blew past me. Charon laughed evilly and the boat started to swing, I almost fell over the railing – again – if it wasn’t for Jack to grab a hold of my arm.

When the boat stopped swinging I looked around. The first thing I noticed is Charon, he looked different. First he looked human but now his face was that of a skeleton, his sockets were empty, without eyes in it. The fog also disappeared and was replaced with fire. The fire glowed on Charon’s skull, making it glow evilly and I noticed his arms were also those of a skeleton. He transformed into a freaking skeleton. A walking and talking skeleton may I add.

The boat arrived at some kind of port, Charon stopped the boat and turned around to face us.

“Welcome to the Underworld, the kingdom of Hades the Great. Have a nice stay,” Charon said in his creepy voice. We stepped off of the boat and Charon disappeared in the fire that surrounded the Underworld.

I turned to Jack, “What now?” I asked him, he looked at me and his green eyes sparkled mischief. Oh no, Jack what do you have in your crazy mind this time. He smirked, “First we have to get past Cerberus, the gigantic three-headed dog, guard of the Underworld.” He told me.

“Come on, hurry up!” He said and dragged me away towards hell, literally this time.

Sorry it’s short, it’s more like a filler chapter! Get used to it, I do whatever I want ^^ I’m boss in my own life.

Anyway, what did you think of it? What will they do when they try to get past Cerberus? How do you think Cerberus looks like?

I don’t know how many chapters this book will have but I WON’T make a sequel. I don’t like sequels so don’t ask me to make one. I’m going to make a single book or a series, this is going to be a single book.
